Will miss Woolies. That was were I got my first working experience. Went there as a Saturday Girl and during school holiday 1965/1966. Worked on Soap counter, then on Hosiery. Used to buy my Mum flowers on a Saturday night as we all left.
Happy Days.

Hi Joy et al

Can't say i will miss anything much - i have to admit to avoiding the store if possible as i found my local one badly laid out, claustraphobic and a nightmare to get round.

But i do remember as a toddler - the wooden floors and the counters set as islands with glass enclosures :O)

I bought one item in the closing down sale just before christmas, and i will tell you, i felt like a vulture waiting pay - i felt so bad for those poor ladies about to lose their jobs and watching everyone scuttling about grabbing everything in sight .......... if only folk had shopped like that before, it might not have happened, or happened now!!

I will miss the cafe, used to go there for coffee quite a lot. I will also miss the Ladybird clothes that I bought for Granddaughter. although I did see that they were looking to sell on the Ladybird and Chad Valley lines.
I will miss the stationery, ring binder, dividers etc cheaper than Smiths, and things like shoe laces that are difficult to find elsewhere.
Ours was quite a big Wollworths and i used to go in there a lot so I don't feel guilty about them closing or about buying things in their sale. I tried my best to keep them going lol!
glos Woolworths was in a prime town centre spot.

By the time I had moved here (19+ years ago) the 'proper' Woolies had closed, but there was a small Woolworths record store in the high street, however, within 6 months, that had closed.
Whenever I went out anywhere with anyone during the day, if there was a Woolies - I was in there!!!
It was the little things I bought; tea towels, and small 'kitchen' type hand towels, also bought bedding there, cushions, light bulbs, grandchildren's first feeder cups and cutlery. I loved poking around the place - whenever I was in there I could find a bargain!!
