a national disgrace, nothing less - my blood is boiling - when I think of all the people sleeping rough in this cold weather, old people who cannot afford to heat their homes, children neglected and abused because Social Services are short of cash - and all so that people in one city in the UK can have a firework display!!!! Were it in my own city I would be just as angry, the location is not important

Have to agree, totally unnecessary, we seem to be trying to "out do"the rest of the world !

AnnCardiff Report 1 Jan 2009 00:53

c'mon Uggers - no I wouldn't - but to just burn money - which is essentially what happened I find obscene - a show that lasted about ten minutes for a minute proportion of the UK - I am so angry about it - I feel a letter coming on!!!

I'm off on one now!!!! what about pollution and our carbon footprint which is being rammed down out throats at every turn!!

Ann there is so much money wasted each day on so much crap,. I dont think theres any harm in spending some on giving people pleasure - life's very short, it's been a crap old year and I can't see any problem in wasting a bit of money on fun - but then I am a bit pissed:))

Oooh, I am too angry to write a response to that!

I would rather wear sackcloth and ashes and see £1.6m going to a better cause. Because I dont need to have fireworks to make me happy and see in the new year.

I personally think its dam right criminal spending the tax payers money like that...when the money would be useful else where...if people want fireworks then let them buy their own...

Ah well we all see things differently. If I felt like some of you I would probably have to cancel my internet subs and give the money to the homeless but luckily for me I ain't such a good person as that. Hapy New Year and all that:)

Hi all, Happy New Year, I couldn't get on here earlier for love or money.

I sat and watched the fireworks, I have seen better displays and didn't like them without music, and said to o.h. that I felt it was a huge waste of money with so many people losing their homes and many already sleeping rough, half the amount or less would have done and the balance of the money given to Shelter. I thought the tv programmes were rubbish this year too, sorry but there is a limit to how many times I want to see a Medal winner being interviewed about their shoes etc
I enjoyed the films on bbc2, especially Just Like Heaven, and Chocolat was good, haven't seen it all the way through before, but things went downhill from then on.
Maybe I should be on the Grumpy programme.

O.h. asleep in a chair - he managed to last out till midnight and the fireworks lol and is now out for the count. For some reason he decided to let off half a dozen party poppers so the room is a mess and he didn't even share them so I will be leaving the mess for him to clear up later.
