the private contracts are for all parts of the hospital not just corridors i know i worked for NHS for 8 years until it was put out to tender my cousin stayed on, she said one minute she was cleaning toilets the next serving tea to patients.

I commend you, your job is so so hard

I was rushed in 2 weeks ago when I haemorrhaged, I had antibac gel at the end of my bed as did all the other beds did, which the nurses used every time and I made my family use

But the visitors I saw that just walked and either sat on the beds or just grabbed a chair, not one of them using the gel, they could have been carriyng anything on their hands and there was me, with the amount of blood loss, was septical to anything.

I was in Frimley Park and the place was immaculate, not contracted now, Bev you guy's are brill :-))

i have not actually blamed any of the nurses as bev thought i had. it just seems better to move out a now healthy patient away from fresh cases. if she gets it again it will cost the nhs even more money to get her better and not do a lot of good for her sanity

Please please do not think I am criticising nurses in general... the vast majority are amazing as I have found with other members of my family who have been hospitalized.

Just commenting on my Dad's treatment.

i may have been only 46

but after open heart surgery and a stroke i was bedridden

i was allowed books and newspapers, but once in didnt go out

for a week i was in a darkened room with my head packed in ice cos i could not have drugs to kill the pain

so dont tell me about suffering i have been there

You cannot tar everyone with the same brush..

I am in no way blaming the nursing staff for my Dad getting MRSA. Infact the majority of the nurses were fabulous. Some of the doctors were another story though. I witnessed a doctor going from bed to bed and having physical contact with patients and not once using the hand gel. This same doctor went from a patient with MRSA to my Dads bed. I did not find out until later that the other patient was infected.

It was not the nursing staff that cleaned the wards
but contract cleaners most of which were foreign.

yes bevs oh but at 46 i bet you were not tottally bed ridden with no one to talk to. my mum is 86 yrs old and not senile demented or any other old age brain problem, a book would have been nice to read but there are not any or magazines though i have now disobeyed their rules and taken a daily paper in and will continue to till she comes home. i have told her not to lend them to anyone incase germs are spread but as she is well at the moment shes not going to infect anyone. i am glad you made a full recovery but every case is different . by the way i worked in a hostpital for 15 years and left 10 years ago we had matrons and nursing officers and things were better then .

i agree, but people are trying their best with what they have

when you work long hours with limited resources you do the best you can, but dont critisize the people who try

if i did i would have been dead 5 years ago

I am glad to hear that you were well looked after.

My Mum was well looked after in the same hospital as my Dad but on a different ward.

The ward where my Dad was was truly dreadful and there were lots of complaints.

You cannot tie everyone with the same brush as I well know with my son's job but I have to speak as I found with my dear Dad

i have had open heart surgery, a stroke and spent 6 months in hospital. i did not wish to have tv or any sort of entertainment, i was there to get better and all these people that complain about hospitals, should remember they are there to treat the sick not to entertain

you can always read a book

i am 46 yrs old and have died 3 times but if it was not for the nursing staff, i would not be here now

and i am not the only one that feels this way

when all the experienced nurses have left the NHS and they are left with the new degree nurses that will fill in forms but are above washing patients, then lets see what they have to moan about

cos believe me it is happening

i am not going to complain about it but cannot understand why they are not provided for the ward and kept there so that germs are not taken to other wards. and dont say that they will get germs on them and pass them to other patients because if this is so then the blood pressure machines and every thing else would also. dont think you would like to sit for three weeks with nothing to do or anything to look at so dont attack me for being concerned for my mum and if by any chance you are a nurse think about how poorly patients feel being isolated

Unfortunately that is how some people feel.

My son is a police officer of 15 years and the amount of abuse he gets is amazing....even if he is trying to help someone.

That's life I'm afraid, I know that not all nurses are the same.... as not all police officers are the same
