I'm back to the 1600's, at which point a drew a blank.

However ......... I've stumbled onto a branch of my OH's family who went off to America and settled in Utah. I've even got a photo of the wagon train they crossed the states in.

They went on to become seriously polygamous - which brings its own challenges!

Have got as far back as C1750 so far on my side (thanks to Foggy ) and my nephew (i cant take the credit) has got to c1740 on tother side :)

I have got a bit further but yet to confirm.

Got the usual skeletons ....a couple of strumpets lol and quite possibly a bigamist !!

Finally found my great uncle today who was killed in action WW1 and where his memorial is so my Dad will be chuffed. He was named after him.

The fascinating thing about a mega huge tree is that it gives so many options. :)

I know a huge amount about some of my recent ancestors and I enjoy finding the details too. I've got files full of information about places, occupations and other interesting stuff.

If I feel like it though I can go off at a tangent and find new ancestors really easily. I can always go and research a new medieval branch and I have enough distant branches to last the rest of my life of researching.

Just a few nights ago I picked the name of a woman on my ancestor list and decided to have a look at her ancestry. That rapidly led me back to some new interesting people.

I found pictures online of where they lived, photos of some tombs and an early description of one ancestor who was so friendly and hospitable that others called him "Open Doors". He lived hundreds of years ago but I found more about him and those close to him than about recent ancestors for whom I only have a census entry.

For a lot of us building a big tree doesn't mean skimping on the detail.

My tree has high infant death, quite a few tight births against dates of marriage and more unmarried mums than you can throw a stick at.
Back as far as the 1600s bloodline.

Funny that looking at the picture of George Clinton I can see a very vague resemblance to my ex father-in-law! Seriously. I will have to see if I can find any photos of him!

my elusive aunt Bessie (not sure where she fits in just that she existed) was 'sectioned' by her husband who was apparently a nasty piece of work, she wasn't mad but found the mental home such a nice change from living with him that she opted to stay and became a nurse there lol.
