I think the problem is the shop assistant gets the fine for selling alcohol to minors , so they are being over zealous |

It sounds as if it has been drummed into the shop workers at Tesco's about selling alcahol to people who are buying for minors. Seems they are a bit over the top. I work in retail & if I sell to someone under age or knowingly to someone who is buying for underage it is me & not the store who gets fined. It is very difficult sometimes & we get customers who have no I.D. & get stroppy.Last year I had a little lad who wanted to buy some party poppers, on tills these days it comes up as age restricted so I could'nt sell them to him, I know it sounds stupid but the customer behind him said, go on sell them to him. My reply was I was'nt allowed, he then replied that he would buy them for him. I still had to refuse & he got quite stroppy with me. All kinds of things are age restricted now. We all want to keep our jobs and don't want to be landed with a hefty fine. We also have to fill in a book every time we refuse a customer. If you are lucky enough to be of age & not look it then please carry I.D. It makes life alot easier for us in the shops & you. |

My Mum was in the same supermarket with my son who looks under 16. She asked him to get a lottery ticket and the assistant wouldn't sell it, which was right. However when my Mum went to buy it herself the assistant wouldn't sell to her, in case she was buying for him! This is a bit too silly. Obviously she had to go elsewhere for it. |

The policy sounds a bit over the top, but it is all part of the governments crackdown on the sale of alcohol to minors, of by adults for the consumption by minors. |

My daughter and her friends were asked for ID to buy a marker pen needed for college. I assume it was in case they wanted to sniff it! ? |

Would you mind if your local supermarket closed down? |

I wouldn't be too sorry if the local supermarket closed earlier, every evening there is a little gang of underage hoodies trying to coerse adults into buying their booze and fags. Generally they succeed. |

my daughter aged 23 was refused to be served with a lottery ticket. But as I have also worked as a cashier it is up to the cashier to interpret the rules to safeguard her/him self. And the use of the refusal book is well advised as it shows that you dont just sell to anybody. |
