LOL I remember doing my family tree back in school. Of course, we didn't have the resources then and my tree consisted of me and siblings, parents, grandparents and a couple of great grandparents (one of which was wrong). If he writes it out by hand then no one can say someone else did it (although the do look so nice by hand) and that way he will learn how to create the actual tree as well as putting the names in.

LOL

I love it.

The secondary school my kids went to used to get them to do a family tree in the first year. Yippeee I thought!
In those days it was my husband's tree which was really quite impressive and her homework tree was great.
I found out about my own medieval/royal links only 3 years ago and now I'm looking forward to having grandchildren one day!

Go for it Sally and blind them with science!!!

He's 13 Daff, and as with most kids can find hid way round the internet very easily. I think I'll show him where I found everyone on our tree. It goes back along one branch to the 1600s.
The only thing I'm not sure about is whether to get him to do it all on paper by hand or whether to print it off somehow.

And then of course I need to find some sealing wax and parchment to put it on.......lol

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 10 Oct 2008 14:47

Not at all Sally...... go for it.... as the tree is there already, why not teach him how to use the various search methods, like Ancestry, etc..... that way he is still learning how to do it, anyway... get him to look up various rellies.... I'm happy to give him some of mine he can play with, lol... how old is he? maybe he is old enough to browse through Records, and under your supervision, look up some of the requests on there??

It was worth the wait.... there was one in my younger son's class........ guess whose son has done well, under his own steam (well I did forge his signature while he was at college, but it was too good a chance, it had to be done there and then, and he was travelling in Spain... didn't have a clue where he was, lol) His year tutor/mentor put me up to it!!

Love

Daff xxxx

Do you think that getting the finished sheet gilded on the edge is a bit much?

SallyF

SallyF Report 10 Oct 2008 14:33

Merlin considering how much this lads mother 'helps' him, then Gregory is going to have the best damned family tree that school has ever seen if I have anything to do with it!

Now if only I can find some heraldic pictures to go on it............
*rushes to Google*

SallyF Report 10 Oct 2008 14:32

I have to say that I've known he probably would have to do one when my colleagues daughter did one last year. I had hoped my daughter would have to do one but her year missed out on it for some reason!

Thats Cheating,Let him do it himself, With a little help of course. But not from "Nosepickers" they tend to leave nasty marks on the paper when they wipe their fingers on it.Most unhygenic.**M**.:o))))>

Sorry everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Internet kept disappearing every time I tried to post. And then I had to go to work.

Anyway.............
My son FINALLY has to do his family tree for school. This means that for once he/I can knock spots of the idiot in the class who is always going on about how fantastic they are and how many more house points than Gregory he has.
