My Nan taught me around the same age as you I think - she was right handed I am left, so therefore I knit right-handed!

Just re-read your thread - I have just bought one of those nice large plastic see through-ish boxes with a lovely pink girlie lid to put a load of unknitted wool in (my friend in work's Mum used to knit when she was alive and was housebound) She told me she had *some wool* if I wanted to have it. I said yes please. 5 bin liners full!! Good quality wool too.

Dont know if I am a bit of an odd-ball but just love the feel of a ball of wall lol

I find I have to keep knitting because I get pains in my thumbs if I don't. Good excuse to keep buying wool and store it under the bed!!! I would love to crochet garments as I believe they grow quicker than knitting.

Tina, am green with envy, you know what a hoarder I am lol I too love the feel of a ball of wool.
Yes those containers would be good for storing stuff you don't want to get the moth in, so long as it isn't already infested. You can both mothproofing spray and I have used that inside suitcases used for storing things.
Good idea, must get my wool out and sort it and checkit over, then put it away safely.
O.h. can get me these really strong clear plastic bags from work, twice the size of bin bags so I use those and tape up the ends.

I am soo glad there are other peeps that like the feel of a ball of wall lol and like you think of all the things it can be made into.

Liz - the wool came in its original packaging - it was that untouched and the ones that had been opened had been taped down. No moths could penetrate those bags. I put them all in the big plastic container so I did not have all the bin liners around taking up space.

Are you really a hoarder? I like to feel that people who hoard are not boring people, because they usually have lots of hobbies on the go!

i.e. knitting, cross stitch, painting - all my hobbies all taking up the spare bedroom and more! lol

i crochet sandra
i can only do the one stitch double crochet,
i make squares and then crochet them together instead of sewing um

but its quicker to knit cos i can watch tv and knit, but i have to keep my eye on the crochet to make sure the hook goes into the chain proper

If any of you are having problems with your knitting, eg. cables, please contact me, and I will happily try and talk you through it.
On the other hand, might I suggest you look at the knitting magazines now available in the supermarkets etc. I know these are a bit pricey at over £4, but aswell as patterns etc.at the back of the mag., there are pictured instructions on how to do
stitches and techniques. This I like, because, although I know how to do all this, it is instructions with pictures. Both myself and OH are useless in setting up the Video and DVD, and I am even paying a little man to come along on Saturday morning to show me something on the lap top. It's all the technical jargon, it is like another language, especially as you get older.
So, if I can be of help, just please ask me, and I'll do my best.
All the Best

I am sure if I look behind the armchairs and settee I will find some abandoned knitting from several years ago (No I don't go behind there often and usually just shove things back after cleaning!!)

I did make a scarf last year, used to do a lot of cable/Aran sweaters for the boys when they were young but don't like making adult things as they take too long.

My Mum and my eldest sister 'collect' second-hand dolls in good condition, clean them up and knit new outfits for them. Mum then sells them in a charity shop - some of them are really beautiful and a fraction of the price of a new one.

I have knitted socks.
I still use a pattern I bought for 4p many years ago. I cannot get on with four pins. So I knit down to the heel on two, then I divide. This can be a bit tricky without the help of one extra needle when turning the heel.So top and bottom of foot is then stitched together. Marian

Talking of cable, can any of you remember the Aran pattern books? I have, stored away, a deep red cable dress from one of those books. Took me about three months to do, but it was worth the effort, It was double knit crepe. I cant fit into the bottom half of it now, but I just have to keep it!. In front of my dressing table I have a large slip mat which my son designed when he was 15, and I used unpicked jumpers with the wool doubled, to crossstitch it, That must beover forty years ago! Used to crochet too, but you have to concentrate on that. Cant figure a way to do either knit or crochet at the same time as use the computer, unfortunately!

Hello all - for those that are interested, I have just picked up this months (NOV) issue of Simply Knitting. In the main part, apart from various garments to make their are patterns for a Santa Claus, decorations for the tree, and a gift stocking suitable for the end of a bed or mantle piece. In the supplement, there are patterns for socks using two and four needles, and a crochet pair of slippers.
I'm not on commission, honest, promise, but just thought I would pass this on.
I only nipped out for me 'flu jab
