I can only knit in thick wool - haven't got the patience for the thin stuff!!
I knitted 2 Icelandic jumpers on circular needles once - that was great fun, they grew soooo quickly!!

I love soft fluffy socks, I gt very cold feet, not sure I'd have the patience to knit them though, it would be next summer by the time I'd finished..

Ros - I have to say 'THANKS', lol!

When you mentioned Readicut, I remembered the rugs that Mum & Dad used to make years ago. They were fantastic, in fact one is still going strong. I had a look on their website and they still do rug kits so I am going to order one soon, and get tufting! Thankyou for jogging the memory banks!

I saw a pattern the other day for a knitted Christmas Tree, complete with knitted decorations.

I got the knitting bug the other year and started to collect the magazine that taught you how to knit and included a ball of wool! The object being to knit a load of squares in different patterns to eventually become a throw! It took me so long to knit the squares that the weekly magazines mounted up and Im still about 40 squares behind!! When I worked out how many magazines I had and the price of each mag I realised I could have bought the ruddy throw cheaper....lol Bev

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 6 Oct 2008 00:53

Bev, I looked at that when it first came out and realised just how expensive it would be to do the whole throw, so didn't buy more than the first one.
Just think tho that when you have finished it can be a family heirloom lol

I once got a pattern for a knitted Christmas crib, was intending to make it but got waylaid by other things and never did it. Maybe one day....
Would love the Christmas tree one tho, was it in a magazine Julia or a proper pattern?

I did lots of knitting the year before last, think I might start something else soon, alth o.h. moaned about the noise of the clicking needles.

Good Morning Purple Sparkly
The knitted Christmas Tree was as a supplement in the magazine Simply Knitting, October issue, price £4.49, from Tesco or W.H.Smith. The new issue for this magazine is out on the 9th,(Thurs), so if you want to get it, I would look as soon as, before they take the October ones off the shelves. If you cannot get it, PM me, and we can swop addresses and I will send it to you. It is a shame to waste my copy, but, I do not need it. I'm busy knitting all the lovely sweaters and jackets I have planned for this winter, instead of spending all my time on GR, which in it's present state is not very appealing to me. I live in hope it will get better, for everyones sake.
Please let me know how you get on, re getting a copy.

Thanks for that Julia, won't be going out till tomorrow so will hope I can still find one or if not would send you the postage for your mag or the pattern only if you want to hold on to the mag.

Will get back to you, thanks again, I love quirky things and would like to do some knitting again.

Can I add that if anyone wants to do basic knitting but doesn't need anything for themselves or family, there are lots of things you can knit for charity and you can often find yarn in charity shops cheaply too.
I know someone on these boards is knitting for children in Bulgaria who have been taken in by families there and they need scarves, gloves etc etc
I think too I saw somewhere where you could knit for servicemen in cold places.

ive enjoyed it but sick of ponchos now, lol well bright pink ones anyway,

my current project if chunky jacket for twinkle,
in cream, would love to knit socks but would get in tangle with double ended needles

you can make um hats, they like the bobbleless hats made in navy olive green, beige, brown, but navy goes down a treat usually,

Only trouble with socks that I found when I knitted them for OH was that he holed them first wearing, and they were made with Nylox.
I have a pink sweater that is almost fluorescent, and when I wore it shopping last week the young lad at the till commented how cheerful it looked. Didnt tell him it was about twenty years old, knitted fron a Womans Weekly pattern! Knitted a cardigan last year, in 4 ply, to an old 3ply pattern . and it fitted as I have grown since I knitted the pattern the first time!

bet it looks lovely jean

i looked at knittin mag in smiths todya and it was full of vintage patterns,
but had none that i would be able to knit with patience,

4ply and 3 ply i find very hard to knit with, cant keep hold of wool

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 6 Oct 2008 19:56

Well done Jean, it sounds lovely and clever of you to adapt the size lol

I have some almost finished sweaters I started in the mid/late 80's so might have to dig them out and unravel them, they won't fit me now! Heartbreaking after all the time they took, but can reuse the yarn, as it was wool or wool mix. We had a shop close down near to where I worked part time so I was always in there, still have lots of yarn unknitted too.
Hope the moths haven't found it!

I started knitting myself a cardigan - have not finished it yet - that was 15 years ago! PMSL

Went wrong on the right front - un did it, knitted it back up and it was too long then arrghhhh.

So have given up - the wool will come in handy for the knitted dolls that I do.

My respect to anyone who can knit adult size anything. Would love to do cable (I know it easy I hear you cry) but not to me. I need someone to sit with me and show me how to do it lol

Perhaps we should have a Knitting Meet LOL

Tina, that's what I mean, started two or three things and never finished them.

I too have never tried cable - I am sure I could do it if shown and I practised but not got round to it yet. I was taught to knit in junior school aged 10.
