Well I suppose when you think that once upon a time, men had tails, I suppose we may have to wait a few more thousand years for monkeys to begin speaking, Colin:-) lol BC XX

They communicate with each other which is all they need to do...............as do other species of animals and birds.

The language that we use is as incomprehensible to them as the twittering of the birds is to us.

We are separate species, with separate types of language, speaking our language is of no benefit to them, so why would they need to evolve in that way?

why would monkey need to speak, they got no phones, no shops etc etc

Colin Report 10 Sep 2008 15:56

No body speaks English, not even the English
broad Salopian is not farr of Saxon German
Jordie favours Norweigan and the rest who knows
what dialect they favour.

The tree of man must be like a family tree.

We have just gone down a different line to the apes

Well said there Kitty .........you are spot on :)

You never give up do you Colin.

Your last attempt at a sneakier dig at evolution ended in a very heated debate.

Monkeys are primates, apes are primates, human beings are primates. We share a common ancestor (long extinct). As in family history the branches split off in different directions and at different times. Some branches are closer related than others.

You could do with learning more about DNA and how modern research is revealing more and more about how it all fits together.

I have mentioned before, and can only suggest once more, that you would find the books by Sean B Carroll illuminating.
"The Making of the Fittest " is one of the clearest explanations of the latest discoveries which I have read.

Please read this excellent review and get a copy of that book from your library asap.

in point of fact...apes CAN recognise 'our' language...just because they don't 'speak it'' does not mean they are not 'evolved' or intelligent (set against a lot of people I know they certainly are lol)

now I know that was not the point at issue....

that is once again, 'Creationism' versus 'Evolution'...

and I say as I have said before that in my opinion the two are not mutually exclusive...I have no trouble in reconcilng both :) anymore than I have trouble watching a painter who starting out with a blank canvas, paints a picture...and then improves upon it...it all starts out with the basic materials :)

obviously one may not believe in the existence of the 'painter' but if you have the painting to look at and you find beauty in it and wish to treasure it....does that matter?

I find it a little strange, if not disturbing.

Sue in Somerset Report 10 Sep 2008 21:42

Oh it goes on and on.

With monotonous regularity we get these attempts at decrying modern science and showing little understanding of how it is not simply evolution which would have to be wrong.

For creationists to believe what they do they have to ignore the discoveries of astronomy, astrophysics, particle physics, biology, genetics, geology, palaeology, archaeology and paleoanthropology to name just some I could think of. All different branches of science and not some vast scientific conspiracy against creationists.

The Theory of Relativity would have to be wrong, all the galaxies and stars in the sky would have to be much much closer than they are and DNA results useless.

You know what colin,i have spent ages trying to figure you out and Im not getting anywhere so i must ask,are you really determined to post these threads until everybody conforms to your way of thought or do you post them knowing (as we all do because we have seen the last couple of days)they will cause an enormous row.
Perhaps if it is the latter you could add a little note to the bottom stating this so that people know from the outset.

Oh he enjoys starting these sorts of threads or sneaking in his same old repeated dogma into what looks like a totally innocent topic.
He then wanders off to presumably watch the mayhem from afar.

Till the next time.

But it does give us all something to have opinions about...........lol........nothing on here actually changes the way I think about the world and life in general...........but it is interesting to see the opinions of others.

TaniaNZ Report 10 Sep 2008 23:18

cmd im fine, and not in the least bit upset
I just believe that if someone is having a good wind up they should at least be honest about from the outset, then hopefully the people that truely do get incredibly emotional about a topic will see it for what it is.
LOL Sue I think you are quite right
