It would seem that out of that organisation, and as a by-product (I think) of this, we now have the cat scanners and other super duper medical equipment... bit like the space programme gave us silicone, teflon and so the technology we take for granted today.... if I could be certain that good was coming from it, then I wouldn't mind so much the contribution that Britain is making. But you are right, Christine, it does feel a bit obscene, doesn't it?

So true, it is difficult to put a value on things because you can't estimate the future benefit.

Yes, the cost does seem high (about one half of the UK's annual NHS or education budget)

But, if it wasn't for the Americans putting man on the moon, we wouldn't be here to day sitting at our computers talking to each other.

Yes Peter..... that is what I meant... although it still doesn't put food and water into hungry and thirsty bellies.

But there again.... we know that these ravaged areas of the world do have enough in aid... it just so often doesn't get filtered down to those who really need it.

A conundrum, and not easily resolved.
