Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 2 Sep 2008 23:57

Mau, it ran across the teenage sons hand, then the dog went for it (a little one, westie I think) and the dog keeled over. they had the rspca and army bods search for it but couldn't find it - family have moved out in fear.

here's the link - don't have nightmares though!

Yes I'd read about it Maz,but wondering if it was legal to bring insects etc. into this country.
I know we have certain laws regarding tortoises and some small mammals, also dogs to be quarantined.

Harpstrings Report 3 Sep 2008 00:23

I SOOOO Sympathise, I hate the bloddy things too. We had a HUGE one in the kitchen yesterday. I put my biggest glass (lager size) over it and waited for OH to come to my aid - he chucked it in the garden. Personally I would have got an argos catalogue and splatted it but there you go. I had to close all the windows - dont want it climbing back in.

*shudders*

It used to be lovely when we had a cat because any spiders I hoovered up would then get a shower of cat litter to smash them inside my hoover - very cruel and I feel terrible for doing it but I really dont like them at all.

*shudders even more*

I do wish I had not peeped in and read this before going to bed I am going to be itching all night! lol

Rosi I would put some talk on the floor and hoover it up - choke it to death! I am being serious. Just to make sure. Or have you got some, I hate to use the word harpic powder and shove that down and hoover. Failing that chuck the hoover outside. Hope its not an expensive vacuum!

I heard that we all eat at least 1 and a half spiders in our lifetime....yuk! And I live about half an hour away from Colchester, so will be keeping all doors and windows closed from now on!!!!!

Lindsey* Report 3 Sep 2008 01:13

Ah no not eating them ! YuK {Who eats half a spider !! }
The last time I got brave , I threw a tea towel over it and carried out to the back door and flicked the cloth out of the door.........nearly breaking my wrist on the door frame, I was black and blue for a couple of weeks.
I though I had caught George the other day, only to find an empty skin he must have shed in order to grow a size bigger ! I've got one of those electric fly zapper things so I don't know what he''s living on, but he's been in the top corner of this room all day, lurking !!!

Lindsey, I am so sorry but you just made me pmsl
I guess that spider got his own back on you!

I have found a couple of big ones recently, put a glass over them and slid a piece of paper underneath and tipped them into the glass to take them outside to the garden. I do sometimes jump when one runs across the floor but just stamping my feet makes it run away from the vibration and gives me time to catch it or leave it to go and hide away somewhere.

The only time I shriek is if I go to the compost bin and forget to check first, sometimes there are cobwebs with spiders on and I walk straight into them, ugh!

And there's more......................

While sitting on the loo,.......................as you do............ I caught sight of something moving on the little bathroom stool which froze me to the seat.
It was watching me .........watching it , we sat and stared at each other in wonder, scared to make a sudden move I went into slow mo, reached for the "show" towel and gently dropped it over a massive black toad !!!!
It was the size of my fist. I have no idea where it came from .........
nor do I want to !
Anyway this toad start hopping round the bathroom still covered by the towel and after a bit of a wrestle getting it out from behind the unit I took it down to the fields far enough from the house not to find it's way back.Ran back , locked the door, closed all the windows and squirted everywhere with air-freshener.!!!!
As if that's some sort of Toad reppellant !

Oh noooo - I sympathise with you fully as I have a really terrible phobia where spiders are concerned!

This'll make you laugh (or shudder!) - the other night I was sitting on the floor next to the fireplace, stroking my cat and watching the fish in the aquarium. I leant back and rested my hand on the hearth. A moment later my cat sat bolt upright, ears pricked up, staring towards my hand...

...I turned around and almost died of a heart attack - there, sitting right next to my hand, was a massive black spider (the one's with fat bodies and sticky-out eyes). I let out an almighty scream (the cat bolted - and even the spider jumped!!) and catapulted myself across the room into the lounge wall (ouch!).

I then tried desperately to scramble to my feet but kept slip-sliding about (I have oak flooring and was wearing tights!) and ended up falling with an almighty thump on the wooden floor.

Grazed the skin off my knees (which came up red and swollen after - double-ouch!!) - eventually got to my feet and swung round to see the spider still sitting there (probably in a state of shock, too). I knew for a fact that I would not be able to sit in that room if that spider was lurking around so I had to muster up the courage to whack it with a nearby shoe. Sorry to all those nature-lovers who don't kill spiders but when you have a fear as strong as this there is absolutely no way you could tell me to catch it and put it outside! I'd die in the process.

Well, I just sat there afterwards, shaking like a leaf, crying my eyes out and wanting to vomit...and even now I keep having flashbacks of it and it makes me feel ill.

So, you're definitely not alone with your fears!!

Spiders in chocolate? OMG!!!!
Christine, you have just put my diet right back on track!

Reading this thread has made me nervous. I just screeched cuz out of the corner of my eye I saw a fly!

I was lying in bed t'other night and a great big spider ran over me. I jumped up and clouted it into spider mush with heat magazine. Then i couldn't sleep for the rest of the night for fear the other spiders would send out a search party for it.
