Has she tried emailing NU as opposed to phoning?

Google Norwich Union for contact details.

Get them to fax the paperwork to her solicitor ...he will be best to sort it .....

She should have "Contact Details" on her Insurance Documents to enable contact with them.I,ve been with that firm for many many years with no problem at all. **M**.

Cant your daughter get taxi's for work and send the costs to the N.Union seeing they admit it was their error in the first instance. I would also get in touch with MP as others have said and the newspapers.

Put "Motor Insurance Database" into Google and you can check whether your vehicle is insured instantly.

But only for today's date, no start or expiry dates shown.

Well you are very luckyMerlin. She phoned a number while at my house, which i found from googling.My daughter spoke to an english lady,at last and thought she may be getting somewhere, but ho no she put her straight through to the Indian call place,AGAIN. She keeps telling them she wants to speak to a manager some one in charge, but is never allowed too.
Perhaps its because she is making a serious complaint that she is being fobed off. And perhaps they dont like admitting their mistakes.

Merlin my daughter wasnt insurered for only a couple of days in march this year, because of norwich Unions admin error. The day after she was stopped by police for random check and found out about her Ins she cancelled her policy with them and reinsured it with another company. So perhaps they are playing baby house a case of sour grapes. One cant check everyday before they set out , JUST in case they not insured, just in case their ins comp have made an error. Its a joke.

Police DO make random checks I've been in the car when they did one. They followed us for several miles, driver was driving sensibly and signalling etc when suddenly they flashed her. They had already done check on her vechile because when she got out of the car. They straightaway said you're driving with a scrapped car. They was also very bolshy with me and an another passenger we wasn't allowed to get out of car, nor open our windows!!!!!
Yes she did sort it out,she was given a producer, but the police do stop cars randomly.

If she paid by card she must have evidence of this and I think she may be covered by the case of Byrne v van Tynehoven, postal rules of acceptance.

Hi this also happened to my son he did not get any points but had to pay 200.00 to get the car from the compound. The police said that this happens a lot since we have started buying ins on line there systems do not always recognise that fact.

Suppose not but they had no reason to run the check while they followed us. Driver was very careful driver and obeying all rules of road regarding speed signalling etc
Was total shock to be pulled over, in fact when they first started with siren and the flashing she moved over to let them pass thinking they'd just got a call. Gobsmacked when they pulled in behind her.

You dont know what made them run the check. It could be one of a million things.

I once got a stolen car bearing false plates with several thousand pounds worth of jewelry hidden under the spare wheel. I ran a check on it because it was a new model and I noticed one of the screws holding the rear numberplate on was different to the other. Just enough to make me suspicious. Of course, I didnt tell the driver that.

He thought it was a random check.

Sounds a bit heavy handed to me.
Tell her to write and explain to the DVLA... or/and go see a solicitor.
she can have 30 minutes free advice.

I know you may be getting a bit bored with this thread but thought you may like to know latest. Tonight we went to the house where her mail had been sent by mistake by the courts( same road wrong number) and they had her post. She has been fined £600, lost her licence and recieved 8 points. All this mail is over almost 6 months, And all sent to the wrong house.
Anyway tomorrow afternoon she has an app at a solicitors and is taking evidence that she had paid her ins, ie bank statement and ins policy.

I would like to thank everyone for the advice you have given us, it has been very helpful. I will let you all know how she gets on.

Back to Norwich Union. They are regulated by the Financial Services Association. By law, if a complaint is made, they HAVE to follow FSA procedures and guidelines.

In the case of insurance, a resolution has to be agreed (not completed, just agreed) within TWO business days, or the complaint becomes reportable, which in essence means that it becomes part of the number of complaints the public are allowed to view.

Needless to say insurance companies do not want reportable complaints to be seen, so they normally do what they can to agree on a resolution in the time given.

So my point is, make an official complaint. NU HAVE to put that complaint on their system, and it will go to their customer services department to investigate. They should be in touch. If its done tomorrow morning, they will have to agree a resolution with you by close of business on Thursday.

(I used to work for a repair company used by NU and other major insurance companies and used FSA complaints procedures, so I speak from experience).
