Betty.

I have 1881 whole collection on disc,

coverd is,

England,
Wales,
Scotland,
Channel Islands,
Isle of Man.
and Royal Navy ,(those who were in Dock on the night)even from foreign parts,

also included is national index,

They are multi searchable,if you punch in from the index,
John Smith,,every one is listed regardless of place, then you find the corresponding area disc, discs can be christian name searched, all the Anns born in 1880 or what ever, and so on,

They are not new out,as I got mine in 1991 from LDS Garrets Lane, Birmingham, they cost, incl P&P £29--75,

Have a look at S&N supplies website,,they do whole host of census data,

Did the Census enumerator not go round the doors in these days?

Betty
The 1881 discs are a transcription. You do not see the actual census returns.
I haven't used mine for ages but found them useful before I had Ancestry access, although familysearch site has free viewing too.

Susan719813 Report 9 Jul 2008 16:17

i have been helping out by transcribing Irish BMDs

really interesting

Lots of original documents to look through

The downloading is extremely fast at the moment

. I think the site will be a great boon in the future.....The Durham Bishops transcripts are on there for anyone who is interested, and a few other English gems.....They are well on their way with the USA census of course.....if peeps in UK helped with transcribing ( takes no time at all...honest ) it would help get them done faster and we can all benefit from free information......sorry about Scotland though Betty....not much help to you I am afraid :-(

Hi Susan,

Thanks very much for finding that number for me. I have not been able to find much Scottish info on the new new LDS site.
I sent them a message and got this reply, will copy and paste it below!

This site (Pilot.familysearch.org) is not a replacement for FamilySearch.org and does not contain the same data. This site will eventually be an addition to FamilySearch.org web site. The intent is to digitize the films we have in our archives of original records and make them available for you to further your research.
The Scottish records will depend upon what rights we have under the copyright laws (which are very limited) I know that we have some Scottish records that are available in our Family History Centers (published on CD's) that Scotland will not let up put on the internet.
Thank you for your feedback and your participation in this important work.

Reminder: this site is in Pilot stage testing. That means that this site may be unavailable at times, the image collections may be unavilable, and the image collections may appear and again be withdrawn for unspecified reasons. It also means that the site is not released nor ready for full genealogical research, and we cannot accept requests for certain records. If you find information of value, we are happy for you. Now is the time to give comments to help us make the site better and easier to use. Later this year there will be program revisions.

If you have not already done so and would like to join in the indexing effort, go to http://FamilySearchIndexing.org to read about the possibilities, download the software, take the tutorial lessons, and volunteer.

Sincerely
FamilySearch Support

Oh BPC,

Is that what the new bit on Family Search is, I have tried to use it but doesn't again have Scotland!! I don't think the can get Scotlands people to allow them to show the 1881 census or anything at all.

Have you been to any of the Mormon churches , they will order in specific census for a few pounds and you then go and look at them there. There is one in Glasgow -not sure about Dundee.
