I am gobsmacked at the accuracy of that reading!

It can only have come from Great Uncle Ebeneezer. He died after he fell into a vat of varnish.

It was a horrible end but a lovely finish.

Much as I would love to believe 100%, in the 1980's I worked with a comedy magician and his wife. His wife did what they called "magic of the mind", i.e. illusions, and they always made that quite clear to the audience.
However, one evening a married couple came up to them after the show, claiming to be professional mediums. They said that while Eileen was doing her act, they could, and I quote, "feel the vibes".
Eileen didn't know what to say, as she was amused but disgusted at them. She just smiled and thanked them, repeating that it was "magic of the mind".
Since then, I've been a bit wary!

That is exactly what stage mediums and magicians, mentalists, etc. bank on.

Most people'want to believe'.

When I do my cold reading or mentalist act, or minor hypnotic demonstrations, the most succesful are with those who 'want to believe' - either that they can be hypnotised at once, or that I can read their minds, or that I can talk to the dead.

The best examples are the hypnotic ones....it is easy to find out who are the most susceptable and narrow it down to 2 or 3 who are so ready to believe that they don't need any preparation at all....tell them they are about to be hypnotised, do a simple speed induction and away they go! Purely because of their own belief - nothing more than that.

Before you can say 'fraud' they cannot unglue their hand from their forehead and have forgotten their names.

Fun, but totally explainable, lol.
