Bill Oddie resembling ,whale saving people...who enjoy the natural world....and who are not overly 'mushy' just gratified at being able to be part of such a miraculous 'creation' ( or evolution...whatever your stance on that one! lol)

My son has a container of tadpoles in his bedroom as we speak...they are all growing their 'ikkle legs now , fascinating to watch as they develop! As soon as they are 'frogs' they will be put back in the shallows and mud of our 'ditch' and if all goes well 9 little frogs will go back to replenish the frog population which was so depleted by a virus a few years back.

PS neither my son nor I resemble Bill Oddie (though I really must rush out for another tube of depilatory cream.. hmmmm)

Hi Rose,

You probably know already but if there developing legs make sure they have some stones to get on out of the water.
I still have nightmare's from my childhood about a bucket of tadpoles, you can guess the rest !!!

Actually, I do care about animals. I am just not over sentimental and I dont give them names.

I've lived amongst animals all my life and prefer them, in general, to people.

Some people seem to think that not being a save the whale treee hugger means that you are automatically cruel. I am not cruel and never have been and take extreme offence if anyone suggests that.

I eat meat. I kill a lot of my own meat - deer, rabbits, gamebirds, etc. I enjoy eating meat that I have killed myself.

I look at people who buy supermarket meat, or eat steaks in restuarants, etc and who then go on about being kind to animals and not killing them to be hypocrites.

I do, however, genuinely admire and respect total vegans - not that I agree with them. At least they aren't hypocrites :-)

Oh, and Ann.....please, do me a favour....?

It was YOU that turned nasty to me! So I hope that last comment wasn't aimed at me.

Good morning Eldrick~~~

"I look at people who buy supermarket meat, or eat steaks in restuarants, etc and who then go on about being kind to animals and not killing them to be hypocrites."

I have to say that I have more time (as a vegetarian for about 30 years) for people who are prepared to kill and butcher their own meat , than I do for people who buy it in neat, 'sanitised' wrappings lol. My ex used to say if he had to go into an abbatoir he would probably become a veggie straight away...I suspect that applies to a lot of meat eaters!

My stance is that if you eat meat,( and that is a choice which everyone is free to make without me nagging them unduly ) then they should also be aware of the 'process of production' and try to ensure that the animal , has as natural and humane a life as possible and a quick, clean death.

Absolutely, Rose. I admire and congratulate you on those sentiments.

PS I count amongst close friends people who eat meat, do not hug trees or unduly concern themselves with Greenpeace etc...and who are amongst the kindest people I know...they would never be cruel to any animal or indeed person. Eating meat, even killing it yourself does not necessarily make one 'cruel' .

Tadpoles do like a little bit of meat to eat-otherwise you can end up with one large one (get my drift?I can still hear my sis's screams now!)
