Hi, i think altering lines is illegal.
But i'm tempted to repaint white lines on one of the back roads near me, it's a straight road,
and it goes up a slight hill, so if you are at the bottom/top and look up/down the centre line, it looks like someone painted it after a liquid lunch ~~~~~~ very confusing!!

you are not supposed to stop, on a clearway..........but people do.........OR park on bus stops......

Bob
A couple of weeks ago,we had in Peterborough, a case where a car was parked on a corner on double yellows, opposite a one way street... an artic came round this system , and was confronted by this car.....could'nt reverse or shunt.. traffic was gridlocked for best part of two hours..... the culprit was parked allegedly LEGALLY..... a blue badge holder .. whose comment was "I am entitled to park anywhere using the badge".....
not in MY book she isnt.
her common sense must have blown out of the window....
PS. no charges were brought!

With the drop down kerbs you can park across the ones infront of your house.....you can't park across the ones at the tops of roads where the double yellow lines are,

We had some problems years ago with parking and access and I spoke to the Road Safety Policeman on the subject.

Apparently unless there is a designated parking area marked out, with appropriate signeage, then you have no more right that anyone else to park outside your own property.

Also there is no such offence as obstructing a private driveway, so you are left on your own to negotiate with the car owner. If you do insist on pressing charges, then the police would have to book all the cares in the immediate area on the basis they are not in a designated parking area. In practice this is unlikely to happen.

As far as the person defacing the yellow lines is concerned, this is an offence against the Highways Act, which upon conviction caries a penalty of up to £1,000.

I think I would park my car on his blacked out lines......that would stop him.....

Ann, that would explain why, down the very narrow (1 car width) sideroads of Winchester, which are 'cobbled', the stones have moved and the yellow lines are broken meaning it is legal for cars to park there. Out of consideration to other motorists this means straddling the yellow lines and taking up the pavement too!!
I have never seen a car parked like this with a ticket on it - even though it's illegal to block the pavement!!

a few years back I got a £30 fine for parking on double yellows - my son said "Hang on, I'll go and check where it happened" came back, you needn't pay he said - the lines were very worn and broken so I took a photograph of them and sent it off with an explanation and the fine was quashed. If lines are not continuous they cannot be enforced!!

I hate that when people park outside thier own garage when there is a sign saying no parking. They think that it gives them an extra parking space.
I donnt think that double yellow lines at a junction is to provide a clear view of the junction and prevent accidents as the highway code clearly states that you should not park within 10 metres(32 feet) of a junction.

dunno if he is tryin to werk a flanker..

but yellow lines have to be continuous..
and ended by a stripe, at either end.

IF for example, as the roadworks have caused in my area, they have resurfaced the road. and about 30 feet of double yellows are missing... therefore this stretch of double yellows are technicaly illegal...Bob

Marion, logically if they park across their own drive, it basically means having to move TWO cars, inconvenient?
or

inconsiderately occupying three spaces instead of two!!

Bob

lol

I thought maybe it was illegal to park across your own drive...that would explain why some of my neighbours dont park there second car across.

If it is your cars then there is no problem.

It is an offence I think if someone parks across your driveway and stops you from getting off your own property but not an offence if they park across it when you want to get onto your property.

Happened to a friend of ours several years ago.

I never could understand English law having learned Scottish law which is more simple to me.

Move it or lose it you scunner!
