Why do we constantly accept people who are on drugs?
people like kate moss i was disgusted that after what she had done she was still accepted especially has so many young girls look up to people like her?
how can we teach our chioldren that these things are wrong when the stars are doing it and being accepted...

have they seen what it does to some?

sorry all but it gets on me nerves....

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 15 May 2008 13:44

Do we ???

I certainly don't - think it's more that they just get away with it cos they are celebs ..........

Jax in Wales Report 15 May 2008 13:49

Drug misuse has been going on for many years its just now with the media the way it is we hear more about the celebrities taking them.

So in effect it is the media glamourising the use of drugs and by society buying the over celebrity filled mags and papers we fuel it.

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 15 May 2008 13:49

Again Jan - i don't think it's society really - more that the media focus on them and that seems to make it acceptable for some obscure reason ................

snap Jax lol

`*♥Jan♥`* Report 15 May 2008 13:52

hi jax yes i agree it is society buying these mags that fuels it.....

i have been around alot of people that are on drugs and also died as a result...so why do they still glamourise it....

PinkDiana

PinkDiana Report 15 May 2008 13:54

recreational drugs have been in existence for centuries so its hard to say what phase of acceptance we are in now..... wwere they more accepted them? we'll never know!!

I think people are a lot more tolerant as they have become more accessible and as others have said..... the media have glamourised them!!

Plus who can had on heart say they have never tried a recreational drug.... and before people pounce, please remember that ALCOHOL falls into the recreational category for me!

Anita great minds eh lol

Jan the only reason they do this is for money, when it comes to cold hard cash sadly ethics go out the window

Id rather read what it says on a packet of loo roll than any of those crap mags:o)

Joan so are you saying anyone that has taken drugs should be shunned from society?

`*♥Jan♥`*

`*♥Jan♥`* Report 15 May 2008 14:08

couldn't agree more joan...

`*♥Jan♥`*

`*♥Jan♥`* Report 15 May 2008 14:10

jax i think what joan is saying is that if these celebs want to do this then we should be sending the message that we will not tolerate it, especially for our children who are buying their music and these mags...

Jax in Wales

Jax in Wales Report 15 May 2008 14:20

Yes we are talking about celebs Joan but also the influence it has on children and young people.

No, no one is forced to take drugs but it is well known that some experiment with them and sadly become hooked, what they need is help to get off the stuff and stay off it, not shunning.

Sue Report 15 May 2008 14:32

Oh dear I am going to play Devils Advocate here.

Firstly apart from normal tobacco and alcohol I have NEVER tried any other drugs.

OK that's out the way.

I agree that magazines push celebrities in our faces, well not mine cos I don't buy. Today's younger celebs seem to think it forms part of their persona and should be accepted as part and parcel of their genius. I don't agree.

However, look at Keith Richards, I saw him 2 years ago and he said to the audience he was just glad to be alive....he'll never change it is a genuine part of his genius and I suppose after all these decades I expect it of him.

I am not saying it's right but I tolerate the oldies being druggies more than the newbies because we know a lot more these days about addiction and how youngesters aspire to be like their idols.

Sorry for the waffle I hope that makes sense.

Jax in Wales Report 15 May 2008 14:49

Sue I sort of understand what you mean lol

but what if these new younger stars are aspiring to be like Keith Richards and such like

I dont think anyone can understand drug users unless they have had dealings with it themselves either by directly taking it or by living with someone that has and has seen the effects, thats why alot of the people who rehabilitate them are ex users themselves.

Peipal

Peipal Report 15 May 2008 15:12

Ok I agree the media has to much coverage of so called "celebs" and their drug habits, but if there was no media coverage the kids would not read about it
to me the media is to blame as much as these "celebs"

But as an x cocain addict i also know how hard it is to kick the habit, and how destructive it can be on family and friends

So therefore i must concider myself as scum as the urge to re use is always there.

But because of this i also have an understanding of what these people are going through

and i have never keep it from my kids they know all about my past. Mebby thats why they have never taken drugs!!!

Steve ex cocain addict

Jax in Wales

Jax in Wales Report 15 May 2008 15:40

Steve

exactly my point hun

and for the record I dont think ya scum just someone who was a user and got out the otherside.

So it seems rehabilitation can work.

PinkDiana

PinkDiana Report 15 May 2008 15:41

And lets be honest if our ancestors in the 60's hadn't made a big deal of it would it be as glamourised as it is now?

Janette

Janette Report 15 May 2008 15:42

The company I work for,It's in our contracts that we will agree to drug testing, if you are found postive you are told to leave site with immediate effect, as one of our lifeguards found out yesterday. Had a live in job as well.

Silly boy
