How many of us have believed a story past on to us by our older generation ?


I have found this at least 3 times.....so was my reallie a story teller or compulsive lyer ?

Lie or tale one...

1) My GGrandmother was devote catholic.....married 3 times and buried 3 husbands after the 3rd....she devoted her life to god and went to live with nuns till she died.........ermmm no she didn't.....she lived as Mrs with her second husband for over 12 years before she sneaked off to marry him when her first husband died....but the devote thing was true coz she waited till he died....


2) My Grandfather lied about his age so he could join the army......ermm no he didn't he lied about his age on his wedding lines..so he could marry....


3) The family name is decended from red indians as we where .....ermmmm no we wasn't we was decended from generations of Hatter's from manchester........

Picked up one on TTF, G G G Grandad was a "famous" chocolate manufacturer.

The lady deleted the thread without an acknowledgement when I found he was a former miner working in a shop!

This is the opposite....when we met up with a long lost family, they said that they didn't quite believe Aunts story saying her grandfather was a captain, they'd only found him listed as a sailor. We actually had his daughter's marriage certificate listing him as a boat captain.

There's sometimes a grain of truth in it.

Morning Lesley........when I met my cousins last week....they all repeated the same stories ...so our parents had been told them..maybe it was to pass many a cold winters night....lol

My Mother keeps telling me she was married in 1958... errr... no.. she married in 1963 AFTER we were born.
Also she keeps on about 'my father'.. well which one is he? the one on my Birth cert or the one I knew?

Dread to think what the ancestors could come up with.

I know what you mean. I was told I was descended from Eldrick the merciless, but once I got the birth certificate, I found it was Eric the minger, which subtle play on words left me traumatised.

The axe, which is a family heirloom, turns out to have been used for chopping kindling sticks and not beheading enemies. It is now hidden in shame.

Tuna.....lol my mum used to lie about the year she was married....and there was no need as she did marry in 1958 and my sister wasnt born till 1961..lol

Hmmmmm.....cant work that one out.........my mum does still come out with right tall tales....but I have put that down to her being the cheif Empresses of Drama......lol


We nearly got the bus diver sacked on the ring and ride through her.....tsk...
