Is it acceptable for a neighbour's dog to come into your garden and

1) pee on your car wheels & shrubs

2) poo on your lawn

3) bark and howl at you if you dare to go in your garden when he's visiting

4) bound down your garden & scare the life out of your visiting 2 year old granddaughter??

If the answer is no, what would you do about it? Neighbour has been spoken to, council & police have been informed (dog roams the road outside) & nothing has changed.

Any advice welcome.

Yes I do chuck the poo back over the hedge! I agree it's the owners, he's actually a lovable dog & I feel mean shouting & swearing at him.

Last summer, I found a hedgehog in our garden during the day, which I took to the vet. It was their opinion that a dog had been 'playing' with it, as there was evidence of saliva. I like to encourage wildlife in my garden, but scraps put out for birds etc are pinched by neighbours cats and dogs - it's so frustrating!

That's the thing, the RSPCA is the only other organisation we can think of.

We also thought that it is an offence for an animal to roam the public highway - surely if they cause an accident the owners are liable. The other week, a motorcyclist came round the corner to be confronted by this dog in the middle of the road! Luckily, nothing untoward happened that time......

I would have a word with the local dog warden and see if they'd have a word. Once your neibours realise that it's over a £100 to get the dog back maybe they'll think about keeping it off the streets.

It's all very well putting up with it coming into your garden but when it comes to children thats another matter all together

Is the Dog Warden not attached to the council? We've contacted them & there seems to be an ansaphone permanently switched on. (Torridge is the area)

I got the phone number of our's from the local police station and I have to say they were brilliant. I didn't want them to take the dog away but see if anyone had reported it missing and they were extremely helpful.

when l was married a spaniel kept pooing in our garden l think it could smell our dog my husband shovelled the poo up and put it through the kitchen window of the owners of said dog !! they must have wondered how their dog managed to poo in the sink!!

Thanks DD, will try the police again. The situation's actually making my husband ill!

Can you video the dog in your garden?

If you can, I would show it to the local dog warden and demand that something is done about it.

We haven't got the facilities to do that, & I haven't got the faith in the authorities that they would do anything anyway :-((

I believe that it is a civil matter if the dog is on your property. However, if it's on a public highway......

I assume that you have an open type garden that you can´t make secure against him?

We have unfenced land and I was driven crazy by a neighbours dog who used to come and steal our shoes, I lost three pairs and was furious about it, when I spoke to the owner it was a shrug of shoulders and "well he´s a dog isn´t he?"
No offer of recompensation.

It is a health hazard to have poo in your garden more so if there are young children about.

It is sad really ´cos I think the dog probably feels quite comfortable in your garden even though you shout at it, he probably knows that really you think he´s nice! Not like where I live (Spain) where unwanted dogs are pelted with stones (not by me I may add!)

Perhaps the food you put out for the birds attracts him.

I think you will just have to be persistent with the authorities and keep on at them. Call them every day till they do something. The dog that chewed my shoes also chased motor bikes. He was reported by the biker and the police made the owner go to the police station kept her there 4 hours made her produce her "doggy papers" and told her if the police received one more complaint about anything the dog would be destroyed. He alongside another of her TEN dogs are now behind a fence. I know all this as she told me what had happened.

Ring them every day if necessary and be persistent and assertful.

Can you take photo's to back you up-to show the dog warden? Im sure something can be done. What if it was vicious? Im sure something would be done then....

having just read poo through kitchen window I think it is a brilliant idea!

But....... probably you would get charged with something!

We have a 3 ft wall in the front, which he can jump.

He also finds a way through the adjoining hedge if necessary. Our gardens are about 200 ft long.
We back farmland & the dog will 'escape' over the back when I chase him off. In the summer, there are cows in the field at the back - surely the farmer can't be happy? Do you think I should have a word with the farmer to get an 'ally'?

Yes Angela I would. I know the farmers round here would have a fit ....mind you the cows have been known to corner dogs too lol

Trouble is, Rosi, he's not a 'vicious' dog, he's really friendly! I feel sorry for him!

my ex was a policeman l dont think he cared he was just fed up shovelling up other peeps dog poo

My sister shares a front path with her neibours and their dog use to poop near her front door so she waited until after dark to flick it over into their garden with a little hand spade...they never complained lol
