My mother ate coal when she was pregnant with me.
I would think that would do more damage than ice cubes would.

Rose
I can tell you straight up as a midwife with 16yrs experience that eating ice cubes does not cause stillbirth.
sadly people latch on to any possible reason when they have such a tragedy so undoubtedly her mother inlaw is more misinformed than malicious.
Please explain to her that icecubes are only water and all they will do is make her pee,the only way they could be any problem at all is if they were made from contaminated water which is highly unlikely.
Regards Tania

I must say my mother in law was convinced that hanging the washing out put the babies cord around its neck.
There was no telling her and when I pointed out my proffession and knowledge she just shook her head so....
I let her peg my washing out for the end of all my pregnancies.
now if only she thought all the housework was dangerous I would have been on a winner ....

Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 9 Apr 2008 21:31

Fortunately the following happened to me before I became pregnant with my first child.

I ate an ice lolly which chilled my stomach and gave me the most severe cramps. I was in agony for about a week.

That would be the only reason I'd advise to be cautious with the ice cubes.

I dont want to be a scare monger but it is dangerous to drink too much water.I think much more than ice cubes lol never heard of ice cubes causing a miscarrige or stillborn. My grandson was stillborn and after post mortem could not find a cause and put it down to natural causes.I think perhaps they are looking for a answer.I hope the baby is born very healthy.
