Elaine I feel the same way but its very hard when her dad has different views on the matter and actually thinks its the norm for her to have this stuff, sometimes its like banging my head agaisnt a brick wall.

I remember the struggle I had with my daughter when she was about ten, and she wanted clothes from Tammy Girl or Topshop that I thought were too revealling or too old for her. I stuck to my guns but she hated me at the time.

Now she is grown up and was a buyer for Adams childrens clothes - she would always argue her case for keeping young girls clothing age appropriate - so something rubbed off on her LOL.

Now she works for primark adult clothing so anything goes.

Joy you are right there some of the clothes for children are far too grown up, even down to the underwear. They are even selling high heeled boots and shoes for children.

If I had my way Boo would go round looking like something out of little house on the prarie lol

Jax,maybe it is not totally a case of being 'allowed to grow up too soon' more a case of society expects them to. How often do we look into a pram at a new born who is wearing denim, or designer wear. Where has all those lovely lovingley knitted outfits gone. The beautiful crocheted shawl, the pristine white sheets and pram cover.
When I was expecting my first, (she is now 40yrs),my grandmother visited one day and produced a pair of thick white sheets, saying,"Your grandad died on these sheets". She then proceeded to tear them into 'pram sized' sheets, and set about hemming them. I felt honoured.. Who would go to that trouble today, in this instant,throw away world.
P.S. Thanks for evoking this memory of my grandparents.

lol Jax my daughter used to wear a vest - no training bras for her or crop tops etc.

But alas nature took it's course all too soon, and she was going out with boys at 13, she was a real worry for a time.

She is great now though, been with the same lad since 15 and they are marrying soon.

When children were young I would sit at table with them with a cup of tea and talk sometimes would eat but hubby a work aholic and not home much before 9pm so it was nice to eat with him sometimes.Now they are all in there teens and eldest is an Aspie with a body clock thats squiffy so she eats in her room and really comes out and I can sometimes be cooking for her at 11pm as she wont eat reheated food so we do our best and make a big thing of sometimes laying the table and having everything in dishes to pass about but hubby doesn't join in as he can't stand talking at the table and it becomes stressful so we let him eat in the lounge.there is a big age gap he is 54 and things done differantly.

I dont think its all down to parents some of the blame has to lay firmly at the door of the companys who target young children with full on adverising for everything from clothes to fast food

Also those bloody American TV shows that our Kids seem to watch all the time all they do is promote the use of "cell" phones and designer clothes

But i agree keep em children as long as you can

I had this same discussion with my daughter who is expecting the other day. We went shopping for clothes for Trinity her little girl and had a look at the newborn stuff too. Most of the clothes they sell for babies and toddlers now are denim or tracksuits so the little ones end up looking like chavs. Ive already made a few things for the new arrival and my uncle who has crocheted a shawl for each baby born in the family has started on the new babies shawl. Luckily she dont have to buy much for the new baby as when Trinity grew out of things she washed them and packed them away.

Dont get me started on kids shoes.

Im disgusted that almost all shoes for girls (sizes 1-3) are still those fashion ballarina types which come down really low at the front. & are not the best for connie to wear.as they dig in .(shame on you Clarkes and Birthday shoes this is the 2nd year running)

Its either that, or ones with a whaking great heel. Ive seen a five year old walk in a two and a half inch heel which isnt a pretty sight.

We had to plump for a pair which were the best of the bunch out of the low slung pairs.

Hopefully they will support her feet & not dig in (as a few years ago we were advised to by a clarkes fitter not to buy that type because of this)

Steve you have a good point there as children see all the adverts and shows and want the same, but it is our responsibility to put our foot down and tell our children that they cant have all this stuff.

You know my feelings on the American shows, they are full of arrogant, spoilt selfish little brats and sad to say they British programs seem to be heading the same way.

I had a big second hand pram for mine used to take all thee of mine and help move us once to.I loved it

We always sat at the table too.
It makes a great place to chat and find out what the kids are interested in, and what worries they have.
they will always come clean over a meal, or was it only mine?

Jax, I know lots of women who worked at nights.
They come to school to drop off the little ones, and then went home to bed.... but like you, they were there.
it is a good way to work it... but you need two, don't you?

Yep i know how you feel about the American shows

On the thing about kids and mobiles

when K was about 9/10 years old i bought a pair of small walkitalkies witha range of about 2 k so i could keep intouch when she was out playing and that worked very well lol

Elaine yes we have the same problem with shoes for Boo and Luke they both have very narrow feet like me but where Clarkes used to stick with the classic lines of shoes they seem to have gone with the modern lines lately which give no real support.

Deanna I was lucky that my mum would sit with the children at nights for me to work as I was a single parent for a few years, I dont know how I would of mananged without her.

Mine had mobiles when they started high school and travel by bus .We needed to know if they missed it or if it broke down very comman here.

Steve thats a good idea luke has his in his room somewhere I will dig them out lol

Not that she goes far she only plays in the cul de sac or they all descend here
