a mate of mine has bought a hamster
but it bites like mad and no one wants to touch it
will the pet store change it ??
Does my friend have any rites ..
the 1st hamster they got is a dream and they can pick it up and give it cuddles and its lovely but this new one is vicious its drawn blood to anyone who dare touches it lol

My grandaughter had one like that and she wore gardening gloves to pick it up.She did tame it though with them gloves. Annie

Perserverance I'm afraid. They're very shortsighed too so you have to makes sure you don't startle them. I think the gardening gloves are a good idea.

depends when they got it but i doubt they will change it

your mate needs to persavere and gain its trust had hammys all me life luv em but they are snappy little things
they need to wait till it wakes natrally on a night and handle it as much as possible maybe wearing gloves at first

It will only be a goodwill gesture if they do change it Rose they are under no legal obligation.

Make sure when your friend handles the hamster that her hands are clean........sounds daft but they have a very strong sense of smell and often bite as they smell food on human hands and bite to have a taste not realising what they are doing.

Also.......make sure the hamster isn't grabbed from behind but is cupped into the hands from the front so that he/she is not taken unawares.

If all else fails........bribe it with raisins til they will look for her when she walks into the room waiting for the raisins. They are putty in your hands then lol

My nephew had similar problem & pet shop exchanged ok

a week isn't long for a new hamster. I'm sure it will be OK when it feels safe with it's people.

We had a nasty killer rabbit once.........had to give it back to the breeder.

I've heard that a lot of hamsters bite.

Swap it for a rat. They make lovely friendly pets and they are much more intelligent. Our Monty was a great little animal. If people came round, and worried about what he was, I used to refer to him as a smooth tailed squirrel.

I once got bitten by a pet rat..........was the worst bite I ever got !!!! I was looking after him while his owners were on holiday........put my hand in to change his water and the little wotsit attached himself to my finger.........sliced a big chunk out of it and it took yonks to heal up too.......I'm off rats now lolololol though my friend said it was my fault for waking him up !!!!!!!!!!!!! ERM.......scuse me?????? I ws only trying to feed him !!!!!!!!!! lol xx
