A non British man was driving at 67 mph in a 30 mph zone , the Judge did not take away his license because ---he has 2 wives and needs his car to spend alternate nights in each house,.!!! He could have killed other road users,

Absolutely not fair, but then neither are most penalties for dangerous driving or death by dangerous driving.

My feeling is that there are good and bad everywhere, but if you wish to live in this country you should abide by our laws and not bring your customs and lawlessness here. If you dont like it why come? I say this knowing that I owe my life to surgeons who were of other ethnic origins, but they were living in the same way as British born and educated people are. Jean

Janet 693215 Report 6 Apr 2008 01:15

Taken from www.roadsidelawyer.co.uk

"I was caught speeding at 67mph in a 30mph zone in good conditions on a sunny day. I was leaving the 30mph zone at the time and was actually stopped in a zone where the national speed limit applies by a policeman with a laser gun. I'm a company car driver and I need my licence for my job. My father has terminal cancer and he relies on me because I have a car. I also attend university once a week and need my car for this. I've been driving for over two years, and have a clean licence and this is the first time I've ever been pulled. What penalty can I expect...

At this level of excess speed you will be summoned to court and the officer is correct - you are likely to get 6 points and a hefty fine (based on income) but you are also at grave risk of a short period disqualification at the Magistrates' discretion. Thankfully as you have been driving for more than two years you are not at risk of having your licence revoked.

You need to present suitable mitigation to the court as to why they should not disqualify you and this would include your father's illness and circumstances relating to your work. You have a good possibility of avoiding disqualification if you have good legal advice..."

I assume that in the case highlighted by this thread the full court report was read not just the headline from the paper/website which may have its own agenda.

Teddys Girl Report 6 Apr 2008 12:24

We have a car outside the house next door, which is a German registered car.
Last January it was left outside another house in another road, and when they came to do the road up, they put it on a low loader and dumped it outside next door.
When my neighbour phoned Police, and Council, he was told they could not touch the car, even though it would appear it had been abandoned in the first place, as it was foreign, and had not been registered in this country.
They can come and take it after six months.

Would this have happened in Germany? or any other country.

What is this country coming to, too much PC.
