pot roast is the old way that meat was cooked over the fire with a lid on peat is best cos it smoulders rather than burns .it can be done in pan in oil or drippng once the meat is sealed for roast but silverside or brisket can braised or boiled with lid on if the gravy is ttoo thick it will burn but if the liquor is natural stock it will thiken naturally boiled beef and carrots !!!! however these days any thing goes dont be confused Kitty May have you tried chicken in the slow cooker yummy Maz |

No chicken yet Maz, pork chops in cookin sauce, think it was garlic and ginger can't remember OH and son both said enjoyed it. Chilli Concarne, hot pot, anything for an easy life these days. Late Mum used to say " never know what you're going to get at our May's" but she ate it although only usually gave her roast, potatoes and two or three veg and her favorite - trifle! |

Depends on the joint. Topside should always be oven roasted, but I always pot roast brisket, helps it to stay tender, and the gravy is scrummy!!! |

Forgot to say.... May is my given name after my Mum's elder sister May Elizabeth but I didn't get the Elizabeth my cousin did but she was known as Betty, always been a bit miffed about this because the name came down in the family. May Elizabeth was a Tiller girl and married a Spanish waiter because and I quote " he could tango divinely" she went to Spain and formed a troup of circus performers on horse back I think, was there during the civil war had been divorced, inlaws went to S. America and wanted her to go with them but she refused and became destitute after WW2. family got letter from home office if they paid her fare could family accommodate her, she camr to stay at Mum's and we were over crowded and I was a teen in my first job, used to but eau de cologne from Woolies for perfume and she washed her face in it, used my comb etc,, couldn't get on with her , she just sat around all day smoking and reading Milnes and Boon type books, in the end she got a job at the local hospital as a domestic and got digs nearby. Have regretted all this since she could have told me of all her experiences and more importantly as the eldest of her family solve what I now have had as a problem ah, the errors of youth. sorry to go on and on when we started about food. By the way, I used to be Mickey Drippin' but that's another story! |

Dad always called me this and it was my name when we had CB's all the family know me as this or just Mick. Dad'd nom de plume when he had a bet of the horses was Mickey B so maybe it came from this I don't know but I googled it and didn't like what I saw on there some student calling himself the same so I decided to change mine. |
