Rats are amazing animals, intelligent and adaptable. They are everywhere and doing for 'Blair' (great name by the way) will not make any difference to general population levels in your area. Let him be if you can - he won't bother you.

We've got them here, hoovering up after next door's free range rabbits, strolling down the street at night, I've seen them all over our City at one time or another.

Mind you, we've do have a plague of foxes, and that's a completely different story!

I think the dead one was ours, he certainly doesn't seem to be around any more, I put a slice of bread out for the blackbird today, and it stayed there with blackie eating some but otherwise untouched and the rest of it is still there now. If Ratty had been around, it would have been gone by now, he would drag stuff off to his hidey hole.

When we had rats the enviromental health dept man told me to stick broken glass down their holes.

It took me ages to catch one before I could. Waste of time.

you probably got hundreds ........LOL ....

Look we have had rats in the loft for 7 months and had "rat man" in 6 times ....he thinks there was probably 200 or more ..........

Look if they are out side DONT waste your money with rat man ...cost is huge and they never go they just move holes !!!!

if you know where the hole is fill it with cement ......but they will eat that to ...the rat man will take months to get rid ......

If they aint in your home ...leave them alone ....coz if they move it may be to your loft!

Found this for those interested, looks like it's in most nuts and seeds:

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is found in plants and is produced in the body in the intestines. Vitamin K is used in the body to help control blood clotting and aids the protein found in the liver that controls the clotting. Vitamin K also plays a role in bone formation and repair. In the intestines, it helps assist in converting glucose to glycogen.

Products: cashews, figs, peaches, pears, pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts, pine nuts and tomatoes. etc.

Has a list of the quantities of vit K in various nuts and seeds.

Didn't know that about the sunflower seeds as we have those out for the birds.
A few weeks ago I spotted a dead rat in the street about 75 yards from here, and it had lost it's head, I thought it might have been run over but wonder if a local cat or dog got it and then dropped it and it got blown across the road. It looked the same colour and size as ours, and he hasn't been around since then.
The two dogs next door usually start barking if there is anything out there near their garden. The last ones we had were burrowing under the fence but I don't think this one did, he went next door the other side tho.

Have you named him, Colin? LOL.

I've got to admit, I'm sitting here imagining a rat version of "over the hedge" and them planning their trip to gather the sunflower seeds etc.

I can see how the sunflower seeds would be the antidote. Rat poison is generally essentially an anti-coagulant so their blood is thinned to the point it kills them. If I remember right vit K (if that's what is in the seeds) is involved in aiding clotting. And so you have an antidote right there.

I have the trap, but so far its sitting unused in the kitchen...don't like the thought of killing the rodent, but dont like the thought of it planning a baby boom either
