Maggie,

I live in Winchester too, which pub was it. I'll make a mental note to avoid it!

Roxanne, is you favourite song "Roxanne" by Sting?

They should have made a song called Haggis, sung by Elvis Presley as he was rumoured to be of Scots descent.

Roxanne

It's funny how accents change from place to place.
Even 20 miles away and it's different.

Oh and me are both half Scottish :)

Maggie, I'm can't claim to understand it very well but isn't the government at Westminster the British Government? Why could the English not have a breakaway English parliament or assembly.

Marion,
I suffered a similar fate every time I moved!!
Sussex to Wales - too English
Wales to Malta - too Welsh
Malta to Scotland - too English and too posh
Scotland to Devon - too Scottish
Devon to Cornwall - not too bad
Cornwall to Hampshire - too rustic
Hampshire to The Shetlands - no-one could understand anyone lol
Shetlands to borders - too Nordic
Borders to Irvine - too 'Southern'
Irvine to Essex - too Scottish (again)
Essex to Hampshire - too 'estuary' lol

Soon learnt to pick up the accents !!!

I agree a private conversation,is just that private,The man was probably the worst for drink.

I do however have to say that its a bit off to class all Scots as Aggressive I have a very good friend who Is Scot and the most Gentile person you could meet:-))

Benjamin

Benjamin Report 15 Mar 2008 11:44

I dont mind the Scots. Deanna, sorry to sound harsh, but there is no need to be too unfair on the Scots. I have just recently found a Scottish line in my blood and am over the moon about it, and to find more ancestors who originated outside England besides my french Huguenot ancestry.

I find a lot of Scots gentle and their accent is quite soft really.

maggiewinchester Report 15 Mar 2008 11:40

This thread isn't anti-Scots - its anti agressive eavesdropping morons!!
I have lived in Scotland at various times for 8 or 9 years, and Wales for 2 years, have some very good Scottish friends - who were as disgusted as me at this blokes behaviour !!
One coupe I know, though, despite living in England for over 35 years are contemplating going 'back home' when they need to be put in a home to make the most of the free care!! lol
