I reckon all the firemen are stuck up the tree - the cat is home tucked up in the warm and Daff is stood at the bottom in the undergrowth waiting for them to come back down LOL

Soooo, has daff run away with a fireman and left hubby with the cat?

MrDaff Report 5 Mar 2008 10:32

Noooo.... still here!!!! Neither me nor hubby slept much last night!

Aww Sorry everyone.... no hunky fire men I'm afraid... hubby and I went around and tried to entice cat down, but no... it didn't want to know... the number for the RSPCA wouldn't play, so we popped around to the fire station, and they said contact RSPCA, and then an emergency action plan is put into place.... they also suggested an arborist or tree surgeon... and as I have contact with one, did that first thing.. if all else fails his lads will come and see if they can get him down on their way back later today... they are working miles away.

I managed to get hold of the RSPCA today, too, and they said that they generally wait 48 hours... but as it has been so cold, they will try and get it sorted earlier... and they usually phone in an Arborist as well, they have a list of them on contract. I am waiting for a phone call or visit as I type.. and can see the poor cat from here, too!

I just feel so helpless!! I know how I would be if one of mine was missing.... first place I looked was up the trees, lol!

I promise I'll update you when there is any news!

So.. no firemen.... but I may have a lumberjack swinging from the trees later today.....!!

The RSPCA Inspector has telephoned me... she wanted me to do loads of things... most of which I have tried, or that have been impossible because of access difficulties... emergency services etc are able to get the key to the gate... the lane has been gated to stop youths with their bike things.... her answer was that she had never before known a wood that was inaccessible, and could I try and find a way in with a tin of tuna on a stick to encourage said cat down!!! I was very polite, I assure you!! And pointed out that we had been doing that! As far as we possibly could.

So, they are not considering doing anything until the 48 hours are up... Said cat doesn't appear too distressed... until I go out and waft a tin of tuna,lol... then it yowls for Wales!

I will phone James (now he IS scrumptious!!) the tree specialist later.. I know he is busy until later today.. and hopefully he will ask the lads to get said puss down...

He has told me that they will go above the cat, on the next tree, as going up the tree frightens pusses further up... They wouldn't dream of cutting them down, lol... they are the team responsible for protecting trees, and managing them for the local authority!

MrDaff Report 5 Mar 2008 15:06

Hi Merlin... we thought of that, actually... but we are too far away from the tree for it to have an effect... it has started to rain here now... it looks like it is going to turn really miserable, weatherwise as well...... I'll try wafting the tuna again.. bashing the dish, etc.. see if he is hungry enough to attempt the descent.. the RSPCA have assured me that he is capable of getting down.. he just hasn't learnt that yet!!

Joy, apparently it is one of the things that they try..... it seems pretty ruthless, but if it would work I'd give it a shot.... Oh... not the heavy duty fireman's thingy, lol... just a gentle one to get them wet and make them want to dash for cover!! lol

Joy it was,nt meant to be,but if you, like I have,Climbed up a 40ft ladder to get your cat down, then been lacerated by its claws when it jumps on your head, down your back and the rest of the ladder,(Then Purr at you as though butter would,nt melt in her mouth) you.ll realise that it does work, the next time she went up there I used a hose on her.It worked, and stopped her climbing it.I,m sure she did it just to make me get the ladder out and have fun. **M**.xx.

What do you think the firemen do? They sure as hell don't risk themselves getting clawed to death by a cat.
Providing there is no besotted owner present they turn the hose on the cat. Apparently they learn how to climb down pretty smartish after that!
