Tiddler is crying and wont go for a wee says it hurts, have rubbed her belly to try and make her go but she says it hurts she did say this morning it hurt when she went but then was as bright as a button and has been fine all day but thinking about it havent noticed her go to the loo which isnt unusual as she just takes herself off to it.

We had this new Year but it passed during the day but today she is getting worse and is now just crying .

Know how she feels as I suffer a lot with Cystitis and have done since a baby.

Boy the clock goes slow when you are waiting for a call

A warm bath might help her feel a bit more comfortable until she gets some antibiotics.

Bless her, if it is cystitis it's really painful.

How about running a bath, but dont put any products in it, the warm water may take her mind off pain, and help her tummy, she may pass water whilst in the bath.
dont know how old she is, perhaps you can give her some dolls to wash, or toys
just a thought, Its horrible trying to pacify kids when poorly....

Dawn,I dont know how old tiddler is.My daughter now 31 had same symptoms when she was three.I put her to bed one night and she woke at 10pm for a wee.I put her on the toilet and she sreamed.Thinking i had sat her on something i whipped her off. There was quite a lot of blood.Called the doctor and had to have her water tested. She had cystities.Anyway she would always be alright of a day and burn up in the evenings.I took her back to the doctors and we had to have more water tests blood tests and xrays. She has a reflux to the kidneys and was on antibiotics for 4 years.Very fit and well now though. Cranberry juice does not cure but helps to neutralize acidic urine and also has an anti-bacterial effect.

As others have said, cranberry juice, Calpol, warm bath and try and get her to drink water as well. The more she drinks the more she will excret thereby flushing both kidneys and bladder which will minimize the spread of the infection.

Just another thought, but put me right if wrong.....
would it be worth giving her a half teaspoon of bicarbanate of soda, I know it tastes disgusting, perhaps hide it in cranberry juice.... I think it kills the acid or something.....

CMD,

Bi-carb should not be used for children except under medical advice but it was a valid idea as it does neutralize acidic urine.

UPDATE

just got back from Newdoc prescription waiting there for us but sister wanted to check if Dr wanted to see her, while she was gone she started crying saying she really needed a wee so gave us one of them paper sick bowl thingies, well she filled it and thats not an exaggeration cos she was crying that there ws so much and it was touching her

Her belly is sore and colour is pale but nothing in her sample.
Have decided against antibiotics whats the point if shes not got anything showing, so they are sending sample off will call dr in a few days to see if its ok and in meantime if she gets temp or is sick have to take her straight back.

On way out the SIster told her if she is having trouble going again then to sit in a warm bath and wee in the bath and she said 'mummy wont tell you off'

Am off to make her a warm hotwater bottle for her belly and give her more calpol and to check in the mirror to see how many more grey hairs she has given me.

d xx

Barley water is probably the best for a little 'un... tastes good, cranberry might be a bit sharp / strange for and so refused... but as much liquid as possible is the answer... water, barley water, whatever she will drink to dilute the urine... makes it easier to pass as well...

bless her cotton socks.. hope she is more comfortable soon.

My wife who, was a pharmacist, says that Cystitis is more likely to affect girls who start to become sexually active, not youngsters.

With youngsters is is usually that they are simply not drinking enough.

She suggests that Tiddler should drink lots of water, as this is most likely the easiest way to sort things out.

If it still persists then go and see your GP.
