Sue in Somerset Report 13 Feb 2008 18:12

Our house had a big old fashioned enamel bath when we moved in. We thought of changing it but decided to use the money to have it converted into a spa bath instead.

No-one could ever have a bath alone when our kids were little...........as soon as they heard the bubbles switched on there were two tiny bodies, plastic ducks, boats etc in too!!!

We've had all 4 of us in it at the same time but it was a bit of a squash!

Nobody is particularly prudish in our house and our daughters are quite happy to chat to us while any of us are dressing. My younger daughter has spent some time as an assistant in a care home so she was very helpful when her father needed help after an operation.

My own parents and grandparents were very prudish. I feel we have a much more relaxed and happy home but I also feel everyone should do whatever they feel comfortable doing.

The boys both still bath together at 7 & 9

Neither of us bathed with the children, just not something we thought of. Having 3 under 33 months they all went in together and there wasn't any room..lol

One thing though, one particular cat we had would pester to be let in the bathroom if OH or I were in the bath and he would come in and lay at the end purring like a loony! I have no idea what was so fascinating for him but makes a change from a plastic duck!

I bathed with my children when they were little.
I would get in the bath with them and we would sing songs and laugh and chat.... great days.

As for when to stop.... they will stop.
there will come a time when it will just stop and THEY are the ones who will set the change.

So don't worry about it, enjoy the short time that they are your babies.

I can never have a bath on my own..lovely though it would be! My kids always seem to know when a bath is full as they make a bee line. So never get to have a bath alone if I have a bath. Sigh!... I mostly have showers as that way I get some peace and quiet. They never bother my Oh when he's in the bath.

I have a son and daughter. He is 4 she 8. They still have a bath together. Do you know since reading this thread its got me thinking whether they should continue. I once asked someone the best age to bath them seperate and was advised when she reached 10 yrs. I suppose it depends on the child.

Be guided by your child....................there comes a day when they start closing the bathroom door to keep you out.

Until then, I can't see any harm in it at all.

I think you're very normal Krystyna. Both my kids, girl and boy, loved to jump in the bath with me or my hubby. I'm sure your son will let you know when it's time to get bathed on his own.

Dianne Report 13 Feb 2008 15:30

Hi Krystyna

My 7 year old son jumps in with me too. He has his own baths on his own, but if it's my bath time I'm not allowed to have the peace and quiet !!

In fact if it's not him jumping in with me it's my husband who does.

Oh for a lovely long soak all on me own with a bubble bath, book and glass of wine. It would be heaven.

Hi Krystyna
I never did bath with my children. Simply because they usually had their baths just before hubby came home from work. I like my bath later than that after all the washing up etc is done. I don't bath these days though I have a shower. Was the occasion on the weekend when we jumped in together though. I'm certainly not a prude regarding the subject.
My son and his wife used to shower with the kids when they were little but not now.

We are Grandparents and if we have the Grandchildren over night they have always bathed together in the bath. My Grandaughter is now 8 and decided herself that she shouldn't bath with her 6 year old brother any more. They usually go in the bedroom and dry themselves off now anyway.

My husband has always been a little funny about drying them off also. More so now they are older.
Society has done this to us all and we are afraid we will be blamed for something that would never occur to most parents and Grandparents.
Regards
Jackie

I loved having my son sleep with me. He got too big at 3 yrs old though and used to kick me in the face (in his sleep!) so I put him in a bed. I really missed him, couldnt wait for him to get up in the morning so we could have a cuddle. Both my daughters would only sleep in a bed, not with me.

CMD Report 13 Feb 2008 14:53

Krystyna,
Your son feels ok with that, so its nothing to do with anyone else....
He will tell you when he dont want to do that anymore....
enjoy your closeness while you can......... It will pay dividends when they are older, my children and I are very close.
I breast fed them both, in bed with me!.and we did share baths, when young, I think it ended because of space more than anything, (and who got the drain end) my kids were both giants,
Heres another controversal thing, my kids would love to sleep in our bed, up untill they were quite big,(we did have jimjams on)
they are very loving, and compassinate kids, and will make great parents...
I just dont like that walking around nude thing thats all..

my dad has always said (and he and mom had ten of us) love and cuddle your kids as much as possible when young, never think that its time wasted, cuz you can never turn the clock back!!

That is what Mike thinks too Jackie, such a shame he is such a good Dad and lovely granddad too....

I have just been reading about the ladies who prefer the bath to themselves........now I think about it, it was always OH to had the kids in with him......never me.......mind you they never left me alone, even in there, they would want to come in and chat to me.....used lots of bubble bath though......lol.....
