~Summer Scribe~ Report 12 Feb 2008 17:09

ROFL...oh I wish I could get it done on the NHS lol, mind you I'd probably have to wait three years and I already look like a yetty from the waist down lol.

Due to my FM I can't shave them myself anymore so I have to get them waxed...unfortunately I can procrastinate for england and have been putting it off for...err...a few months lmao. I should get them done now spring is here lol. And if I'm getting a smear done I've now got the impetuous to go ahead... still contemplating the kini wax.

Bet if you found a nice dishy doc that would cure her ;-) lol

Oh I did SS....caused a big stink.....doesn't make her want to go though......still, I am sure we will sort it :-)

Legs waxed? At the family planning clinic? hmmm! yours has something ours doesn't then! lol

~Summer Scribe~

~Summer Scribe~ Report 12 Feb 2008 17:01

Omg Susan, you should have made an official complaint. A patient and their mum are of course going to know best what you're allergic too. That's why when you go to the docs they ask if you're allergic to anything. I'm shocked, no wonder your daughter has been put off going. It's a shame because they're not all like that. I have a wonderful GP and half the time I'm there is spent talking about gossip lol. Last time we discussed Harry Potter. lmao.

I think there was something in the paper recently about us getting a new family planning clinic as the old one is not fit for purpose or something.

I will make the appointment soon as my period is finished and I can get me legs waxed. (lmao)

the age in Scotland is 20 -60 for smears

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Feb 2008 16:44

In this area I am sure they stop doing the smear sometime in the 60s.

Hope you get it sorted Puss. I have a daughter like that.....she needs a check up but keeps putting it off......all the nagging in the world hasnt done any good and just makes when she visits very uncomfortable.......a few years back when she was a teen-ager I thought it was time she went to the doctors herself to become independant......she had a bad throat.....I told her to let the doctor know that she was allergic to pennicillin.....( badly so ) the doctor ( a woman ) told her nastily.....'what! so your mum thinks she is a doctor does she...gave her penicillin and daughter was very ill.....she wont go to them now in case she is verbally abused again.

am still trying to think of ways to get her there so will be interested in any answers on your thread as it is rather worrying even if we do joke about it :-)

Puss - this is a difficult one, emotional blackmail sounds like the best option - but you have to remember its her choice. There is no l would not go!!

Good luck - but don't do it on the lines of you willstop your tablets, she might keep you to it!!!! lol - just see how she would feel if its the other way round.

Take care

jude :o) xx

The things they use change all the time so it isn't always as uncomfortable altho a little embarrassing if you have a male doc. I prefer to use the Family planning clinic as they do them more often so are very adept and they see so many bits, it doesn't feel so embarrassing, usually women doctors or nurses do it, well they do at mine.

Liz (SS),

Go with the 3 years and make that appointment now! The receptionists have to act in confidence so you can ask for it not to be the nurse you know.

I hate having them done, I too have a similar problem to your Mum, but IT IS WORTH IT lol!

Mandy

~Summer Scribe~

~Summer Scribe~ Report 12 Feb 2008 15:59

Liz, I can understand why people put them off, I just find them very embarrassing. My mum doesn't like them because they're painful for her due to anatomical anomalies (she was told she shouldn't be able to have children because of it).

Mandy in Wiltshire

Mandy in Wiltshire Report 12 Feb 2008 15:58

Puss, I'm in the midst of having 6-monthly smears due to an abnormal result. Dug out the leaflet (published by the NHS with Cancer Research UK) and it says that the test is offered to all women aged between 25 and 64.

Much as I agree with you, I think you'll find that the doctor's surgery won't discuss her with you (data protection and all that malarkey).

Good luck
