Does anyone else have a problem with it? |

See your GP and check if it is a problem with your levels. He may refer you to a dietician as it is possible that your lifestyle is not what you think it is. |

I was diagnosed with VERY high cholesterol about nine years ago. Kept thinking I was having heart attacks and passing out in restaurants - eventually blood tests revealed cholesterol level at over 9 - too high. Pleaded with my GP not to give me medication, I eat all the wrong sorts of things I said, I'll have a go over the next month and then we can test it again. Cut out everything I should not eat and lo and behold it weas tested again to reveal a level of 11.5!! Obviously not my diet then, but what is called "familial" - parents probably had high cholesterol but this was never diagnosed as far as I am aware. Am now on statins and level is around 5. |

Yep like Ann I'm the same and have tried the diet thingy but to no avail. So take one tablet a day and there you go, all fine. |

Hi Rox - My chol.level is 4.8 (just under 5) and was told that this was perfectly acceptable. However, my blood pressure was very high, and this is now being controlled by one tablet a day and is down to a normal reading. |

The largest proportian of cholesterol is manufactured by the liver and there is diddly squat you can do to reduce it. diet, pro-biotic drinks and spreads and yoghurts will not reduce the levels of cholesterol that your liver produces...end of story..... |

Just had mine checked yesterday as heart disease and high cholesterol runs in the family. Last time it was 5.1 - about 4 years ago. I expect it has gone up so may need statins. I think it's what you've inherited from your parents and it's just a case of reducing the risks. |

Everyone in my immediate family have high cholestorel...except me. But then I'm the youngest so there's time yet. When mum was diagnosed it was recommended that me and siblings were tested. mine was 3.6 I was told to stop bragging as everyone else's was well over the accepted limit of 5. Now they're on medications for it as diet control didn't work. I do think there is a major hereditary factor with it, or perhaps it's just to do with age. |
