Dear Martine

I appeal to you today from my heart and for the members of Genes Reunited.

Please will you respond to let us know what the postion is regarding the recent trojan attacks.

Many, Many members have been affected by this and many are still having problems and will continue to have problems if remanents of this trojan is left on their computers.

Whilst we have tried our hardest to way lay the damage this has caused, it is impossible for us to actually help any further then we have done already unless you correspond and help us also in this matter.

Last night I was informed on a few occassions of a pop up happening on the home pages. The initial pop up was related to security as was the one last night. It had been said by Genes that the offending advert had been removed. If this was the case, was this new security alert one of your own messages now.

We need to know what it was and why it happened, without that all I and other can possible do is continue to treat the new pop up with suspicion. This mean hours and hours again of scanning, hours and hours of man power and not knowing whether the real cause has been affectively dealt with.

Out of the goodness of our hearts we are trying our best to help all affected by this including Genes Reunited themselves.

Please do us the courtesy of responding.

Colin & All who wish to know.

As paying members i feel we should be informed of what action is being taken by GR to ensure our internet safety. Its not fair expecting members to solve these issues for you.

If we individually asked for a review of the threads where the virus is mentioned would GR take note? Still waiting for a reply from GR to an email I sent last thurs.

I hope that Martine does read this.

The other day I sent the following to GR in feedback:
"Please would you post a locked sticky on each board, advising members of GR and its sister sites, about the recent problem with the advertisement and possibility of members having downloaded viruses because of it.
Also, in that locked sticky, please advise members what to do in the event of a future recurrence and giving an assurance that, hopefully, it will not recur."

The reply came today:
"Thanks you for your email. Please accept my apologies if this virus alert has caused you any worry.
There was an advert on the site which was inviting people to download an application. At that point your anti-virus software picked this up and warned you of the various types of viruses that could be contained.
The advertisement does not actually contain a virus, but is inviting people to download an application so anti-virus software will create an alert to the user at that point and people with over zealous settings will mention various possible types of viruses that could be contained.
This advert has now been removed from the site."

I responded:
"Thank you for your reply, but it was not an answer to my request. Please would you read my request again. Thank you.
I am aware of the cause of the problem that started towards the end of last week; it did not cause me worry but it might have done to many others. I have stayed away from GR and its sister sites, only looking in briefly now and then, in the hope of seeing a reassuring locked sticky."

I have received a further reply:
"Thanks for your email. As the problem is resolved we won't be posting a sticky, however your comments have been noted."
