Did you try going through ancestry.com?
I only have the British records on my account as I don't need US or Canadian records.
Seems that it is cheaper?!

I dunno, Deb, because I'm still subscribed it won't show me what it's available for unless I log out and I'm not sure I can remember my password lmao.

I just exported a GEDCOM from the 2005 that I had and imported it to 2008.

Can't appear to subscribe through the .com site as it only offers US deluxe or World.

As for using the cheeky back button method... I've tried a couple of times and it hasn't worked *pouts* I dunno if it's because of the pop-up blocker.

~Summer Scribe~

~Summer Scribe~ Report 10 Feb 2008 14:02

Ah...worked it out...you have to click the Subscribe button and go that route, not through "my account".

Hmmm.... Saving 15.99. The trade off is that you don't get the 14 day free trial if you go through the other way. Although £15.99 is equal to two months free.

Dilemma whether to look for some other deal.

SS
You could try opening up a new email account.
Try to take a 14 day free trial with through you new email then use the back button method to get your 20% discount
I'm not sure if this will work but it may be worth a try

~Summer Scribe~

~Summer Scribe~ Report 10 Feb 2008 14:51

I don't know if that will work, Claire. I think you can only have one deal or another.

Mum says to go ahead for the £64. So I guess I'll do that. £16 is a pretty good saving anyway lol.

How far through the subscribe process did you have to go before the offer popped up?

Only as far as pressing "Upgrade" then the back button

Heather

Heather Report 20 Feb 2008 11:40

I rang them last year and said people on "my forum" were getting it for £56 and why couldnt I - bit of umming and erring and "one moment m'aam" and they gave it to me for that. Dont know if I have the cheek to do that again this year though :)

I may just let it lapse and wait for them to contact me with a 20% discount.

Lapse a day Heather, then go for the back button. You know you can't do without it, you'll get withdrawal symptoms!

Ive found one of my ancestors on the Welsh census listed as British subject born in America I want to look for his birth but dont really want to have to upgrade for the world subscription when I wouldnt really get the use out of it.

Would I need be able to sign up on a different addy to get the free trial and cancel before any money is taken out?

Jax xx

If you didn't want the Family tree 2008 version... why didn't you buy it anyway for the 6 months free on ancestry then sell the unused tree maker on ebay lol. I might go try that get a new email for the free trial again. Think I done that once already :-)

Oh I just remembered I couldn't do it the 2nd time, even though it was a new email address it wouldn't let me claim the free trial again because my home address had already claimed the free 14 day trial once. Darn.
