Thanks everyone for your replies. My ancestor who died was my 2x great Uncle, so I am including the branches on my tree - cousins etc., not just my direct line..
You've helped me make my mind up and I've decided to add the later family to my tree.

It depends entirely on how big a tree you wish to create.

I agree with names, and I always add these to my tree. Can also be useful if you are looking for DNA matches.
Just be aware that if the second husband is older than the first, your tree on here may list him as her first, then the children will be in the wrong order. In those cases I change the DOB of the second to make him younger, and add a note to this effect.

Children of the later marriage are your blood relations. Therefore they belong on your tree, unless you are only doing direct line i.e only parent, grandparent, great grandparent, and not their siblings.

Children of the new husband and a possible earlier marriage would be step relations and could be left off or added as described by Gwyn.

I would record the later family too with notes to clarify their parentage.

Later families often merged and if they considered themselves as one family, I record them as part of the family story.

One of my ancestors had one child with his wife, then died when their daughter was 2 years old. His wife then remarried and had more children with her new husband.
I can't decide whether to include those children on my tree or not. They would be half siblings to my ancestors daughter. At the end of the day, I know its up to me to decide, but I'm wondering what other people do in similar situations?

I'm going to bed now, but will answer any replies tomorrow.
