That would definitely be my next step to see if the Davison children married & had children.

I do agree with your possibility that maybe Henry stayed in Salford and Ellen returned to Dover.

Dea kindly sent me the National Roll of The Great War for Henry - this is what it said for him :

'He volunteered at the outbreak of war, and in March 1915 was drafted to the Dardanelles where he took part in the first landing, and the first & second battles of Krithia. He was wounded at Suvla Bay,but afterwards served at the Evacuation of the Peninsula, and returned home in January 1916. He was then retained on important duties at his depot, and did valuable work until June 1919, when he was demobilised. He holds the 1914-1915 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.'

Very interesting information with the address being in Salford, it connects the Salford siblings up!

I am here so surely there are other grandchildren somewhere???

I will be trawling through more marriage records to see if there is anything !!

There are 5 children that I need to research so it may take a while !

Good grief - this gets more complicated - no wonder you have problems.

I wonder (if the Salford births match) if the couple spilt up in the early 20's, with Ellen moving back to Dover and Henry staying in Salford. I researched a relations wife's family recently and her parents split up about the same time due to the husband drinking, with the elder three children being placed in a home. Ellen may have lacked sufficient money to keep them all, and the children were by another man as you suggest.

As you say the only way forward would seem to be the birth certs and, if your family have no contact with the family of the older siblings, trying to trace their marriages and children. Do let us know how it turns out

Many thanks for your idea on the death cert, my problem is I cannot find his death whatsoever!

Which is my brick wall too at the moment.

Now like you said his children were born between 1915 & 1928

I have the birth certificates for the last 2 Davison children - Flossie b.1926 (florence) & Joyce b.1928- Father is not named on either just crossed through.
My father & uncle recall being told that their mother Joyce plus a brother & a sister were brought up in a childrens home in Kent from possibly a young age.
I cannot seem to find out why.

I did wonder if Henry was the father of the older siblings and died & Ellen possibly met someone else and had more children and just 'continued the family name' for a bit of a cover up?!

Not sure, I have ordered the eldest sibling's Birth Cert - Ruby and also Cyril's . I wonder if father is named on those.

Just cannot find out when he died.

Very puzzling.

I had one more thought - his death cert - it may confirm his birth date - My own grandmother took 5 years of her age when she married but the death cert was correct

That fits in with the National Roll info on Harry (sorry - Henry!!) which has him living in Sarah St. Salford around 1916/17 ??
(Which, incidentally is where many of my family lived at various times).

I can't post it on here as I have downloaded it as an image and don't know how, or even if I can, change it.

I searched on Free BMD by just putting in the father's surname, mother's surname and came up with the following - with the unusual maiden name I would think it has to be them

I searched on George Davison Dairyman in the 1881 census and only came up with one reasonable candidate living in York with his parents and born in there in 1857. However there is no obvious person in later censuses that ties in.

I suppose it is likely that Henry came from the north of england given his choice of regiment, but that doesn't say much. Henry and Ellen's choice of names for their 7 children don't point to any obvious family names either!!!

It may be worth contacting a few people of the site who list George Davison's of about the right age to see if there could be a match. There are two people with George's from the Leeds area of about the right time. Good Luck Kay

You could be right Kay,

But how else other than birth cert can I find mother's name?

Think its impossible??

Just wish I could find a birth for Henry & could try getting a cert.

Or I wish they stated mothers maiden names on birth reg back then.....

I wonder if he died pre 1901 and Henry's mother remarried - Henry may come under his mother's new name in the census. Or the couple may never have married

On his son Henry's marriage cert in 1913 it does state fathers name and (deceased) underneath,
so I believe he died 1913 or before.

It does actually say George EDGAR doesn't it, and not George E ?

The only possible death I can find in Leeds is a George William age 36 in 1898, but if the Edgar is quite clear on the cert, this is unlikely to be the one.

As in Pam post above,, the only other possibles I can find are around the Durham area - there are 4 in and around that area betwen 1898 and 1911, but I really don't think any are yours.
