My 2 eldest Granddaughters 14 and 12, have just gone home. Grandson 1 is on a sleepover tonight! So I lost one and gained two! I'm not complaining though. I know I'm lucky to have them :-)

Oh!

I did post on the WW1 thread about my great uncle, who was killed in the first few months (November1914).

Ironically he was killed on what would be my mother's date of birth in 1917 :-(

It is, Jem, but then most families were affected. I never realised until recently that one of his brothers enlisted (the first brother had been a career soldier). His records show that he received a Field Punishment No. One for discharging his rifle in the trench in a manner likely to injure others.

I'm assuming that meant his fellow soldiers in the trench and not the enemy :-S ;-)

I don't whether anyone on my tree died in WW1 for sure. My Great Grandfather (my paternal Gran's father) died in a mining accident in 1904. I don't know whether my father's father served. I know my Mother's Father survived. He was a career soldier.

I did have a trial subscription to a forces site, but I didn't find it very good.

I have a subscription to fmp, Jem which has a good collection of military records, which is where I found out about the second brother. If you would like a look up, just let me know, and pm me the details :-)
