Hello all :-)

Hi, Tawny :-)

Jem, thanks for the links. I don't know if it was tongue in cheek, but definitely not my Clifford :-D :-D

Good Morning Allan :-)

No, I just wondered if there might be a genetic link somewhere! You wouldn't think there would be so many Clifford Mortimers, would you!

Good Evening Tawny and Sallie:-) :-)
Hope things are good with you both :-):-)

Hi Jem and Sallie :-)

You're right Jem, and I've been told that Clifford was an unusual name for that period. With the help of a person on this site, I have an outside contender for Joseph Mortimer (Clifford's supposed father). I'll send of for the marriage cert to see if it yields any clues :-D

That would be brilliant if you can get some answers! I know that it's important to you!

I have been very successful all in all! I have 3680 people on my tree to date :-D :-D

I have managed to trace most lines back to at least 3x Greats and in some cases much further. The earliest I have gone back to is 1575 with the Codd family and 1573 to CHOROSOPHER DEWING! :-D

I am stuck on my latest though. I only send for certificates when I reach a dead end on GR. In this case it hasn't really helped, except for a witness to the marriage.
She may be the a link to a family I suspected were connected, as the surname has been carried down as a first name, or a middle name, each generation.

Thanks to the free Anc*stry period I was able to get back to the early 1600's BUT it was via other members' trees, so I will not use the info until I can verify it. I'm starting from the Coe side with the marriage of Richard Coe to Martha Toft in 1774 as from that date to the present I can find actual evidence. I do know Martha's father (not personally, of course :-S) and it is from her tree that I was able to glean more info.

Also from Richard's son, Johnson, who married Ann Massey :-D

You're wise to wait until you can verify it Allan. I've seen some howlers of mistakes!

On one member's tree on GR, she had my Pembrokeshire Wilcox family mixed in with a Birmingham Wilcox family, even having 2 men called John supposedly brothers, one from Pembrokeshire and the other from Birmingham :-S:-D
Of course, I have the benefit of being able to visit the graves and the family bible!

G'day, Mike :-)

Fortunately, Jem, I was able to get the basics from a niece of my grandmother, but although she gave me names and some life events, even she got parts wrong e.g. she said my Gt grandmother came from a very wealthy family in Dublin. In fact she came from Cork, and married my Gt grandfather who was a Bricklayer

Yes, stories get changed down the years. Even on the Census' you have contradictions. e.g. 2 Census' say that my 2X Great Grandmother was born in Bloomsbury, and 2 others say Lewisham Kent.

She was married in Bloomsbury- St James Clerkenwell, and lived there in 1847, but whoever answered the Census compilers questions may have been mistaken.

Age is another thing that can vary drastically for the same people. My 3X G Grandfather Thomas Wilcox who started out as Wilcock, became Wilcocks and then Wilcox had 3 different ages on the census', a different age on his grave and yet another in Haverfordwest Registry Office on his death certificate!

My ancestors were a load of liars.
Named on censuses AFTER they'd been dead 6 months !
Married as a spinster when she was already married.
Stated "of full age" when married but was only 15
Baptism was 6 weeks BEFORE birthdate on birth certificate !
3 different maiden names on childrens birth certs

Just a bunch of toe-rags !

I'm beginning to suspect that Clifford may have deducted a few years from his age :-D He was supposedly 44 when he married my gran, who was 22. I have found a CG Mortimer Scenic Artist Theatre) on the 1861 census whose dob is given as 1849, which is 11 years earlier than my grandfather's supposed dob :-S. Can't find a birth registration for my most recent candidate :-D

My Great Grandmother lied about here age, as she married my Grandfather who was 11 years younger. She was born in 1856, but it became 1860!
