:-D :-D :-D

The Irish and the Welsh wore kilts once too! So as at least one of us has a bit of both in us..... ;-) :-D :-D :-D

But then I AM a girl! :-D :-D

I think I'll do a spot of flagellating now,in case Mike thinks he's got to :-D :-D (self-sacrificing and all that)

Strange, I know about my Irish side but I had a second cousin directly from my line of Coe's, who had the most broad Glaswegian accent. I haven't done any research on him yet as to why or how he acquired it.

He certainly drank like a traditional Scotsman and he was also a rabid trade unionist :-D :-D

Woaw Woaw, just a minute ....

The traditional dress of the Highlanders was in fact a long Irish shirt and a cloak or plaid
“The kilt’s appearance can, in fact, be dated within a few years
Its inventor was an English Quaker from LANCASHIRE, Thomas Rawlinson.
Mr Rawlinson decided to shorten belted plaids after workmen in the Highlands, where he was staying, said they were uncomfortable.

Lancashire folk are known for being thrifty, Mike. Save a bit of cloth, save a bit of cash :-D :-D :-D

Jem some people's trees had some of my ancestors on them but I can' be sure of the veracity of them. I've started from where I know that I am on firm ground and will check the others out in due course. The Coe family not only used the same fore names from generation to generation, but also when siblings married (outside the family I hasten to add!) and had children, so that cousins often had the same forenames :-S

Sorry Allan, something cropped up.

That seems to be quite usual in Irish families Allan, even ones that have been living here a few generations. It's traditional to name each new child after a family member. In OH's family there are so many Johns eg, we have to call them by surnames/ description/ young / wee/ old/ even using the given name twice! :-D :-D
