Hi Jemima

Its a picture of one of our bob tail lizards. These are not pets, as such but are wild ones which have taken up residence in our back garden. There seem to be two distinct family groups. They are great for keeping the snails at bay, but we do have to fight them for the tomatoes :-D

I just google imaged them. There's a photo of a two-headed one! Conjoined I suppose. We used to have lizards in the garden that looked as if the end of their tails had been chopped off. At first I thought our cat had had it. I haven't seen them for a few years now though.

Our cats give the lizards a wide berth. We occasionally find one in the Guinea pigs shelter. They go after the fruit and vegies we give to the GPs, as well as sharing their water

Any sightings of the Aurora Australis where you are Allan? I have been watching "Stargazing Live" on BBC 2 where they have been showing the Aurora Borealis live from Norway. There is a chance that you can see it in Britain as far down as Cornwall tonight. Unfortunately, not Wales or I would have gone to try to see it in Brecon.

French Fries

No Jemima, we are too far north. You may be able to see them in Tasmania, given the right conditions. It is also visible from parts of NZ so we may get the chance to see them when we are there.

Yes- someone had emailed the programme a beautiful photograph from Tasmania. I love stuff like that. Last August, OH, Grandson 1 and myself went to view the Perseid meteorites in the middle of the night.
The first night we sat on the beach in the village I grew up in in deck chairs in the pitch dark at 3 in the morning! Too overcast.
The following night, we half-heartedly went 2 miles down the road to a car park and had wonderful sightings. The police came wanting to know what we were doing? The 3 of us, again in deck chairs, blankets, flasks of tea and a picnic :-D :-D :-D

Tasmania is Australia's closet point to Antarctica, although, funnily enough, Albany in WA runs a close second. The Australian Antarctic Division is based in Hobart, but it was once going to be placed in Albany :-0

Yea, but not the flights. We fly Perth to Auckland, via Melbourne and return from Christchurch to Auckland and then direct flight to Perth
