I've just got back from Collie, a town surrounded by State Forests. Black smoke! I hope that it is from a controlled burn :-(

That's terrible Allan if it is wildfire and not the controlled burning :-( Sue was saying that a pilot was killed by the fires in NSW.
They are forecasting bad storms with gale force winds for Britain especially the South Coast of England.

Yes Jemima, a terrible loss. We have some 'water bombers' stationed at our local airport. When fires are close you can see them fly in and out, and you wonder how they can see in the smoke :-0

They are very brave and heroic people the emergency services involved in this terrible situation.

Yes, and most are volunteers! During the last couple of years there have been a few tragic deaths in WA of volunteer fire-fighters. One incident down south in Albany involved an 18 year old girl, who with another woman, was killed in a bush fire. Flames engulfed their fire fighting vehicle
