I am looking for any information on Basil Delve Cundy Allen who served in the Somerset Light Infantry during WW2,possibly in Italy. Unfortunately I don't have his service number.
|
|
WW2 records are not online. They have to be applied for.
Several threads on here with info about applying. You may need to provide a copy of his death cert

Born in East Ham, Essex (now Greater London) to Charles Thomas Allen (1872-1931) and Alice Amelia (Cocks) Allen (1872-1954). Given no middle names, he co-opted the names "Duncan Seaforth" (his sister's husband) and "Basil" (his younger brother) for various purposes. Raised in England and Rangoon, Burma (then part of British India). Emigrated to Canada in 1924, to seek farming employment in Manitoba. Married Violet Phyllis Parsons (1894-1935) in Winnipeg, in 1927. Made a failed attempt at farming near Lyleton, Manitoba. Moved with Violet and son David Charles Allen (1928-2000) to Somerset, England, in 1929, working for his father on a poultry farm. Son Brian Anthony "Tony" Arthur Allen (1930-2003) born there. Family moved back to Canada in 1931, settled in Parkers Cove, Annapolis, Nova Scotia. Charles found work fishing and crewing ships and various odd jobs. Violet died in March 1935, three days after giving birth to son Llewellyn John "Bunty" Allen (1935-2019). Charles' three sons were left to the care of neighbours and eventually to Violet's family in Manitoba. Three months after Violet's death Charles married Edith Melrose Downie (1914-1992) in Middleton, Nova Scotia.
Served in WWII 1940-1945 with Royal Canadian Signals (No. 6 and No. 5 Fortess Signal companies, based in Halifax and Sydney; service no. F28994), to rank of Staff Sergeant.
Charles and Edith had three daughters: Yvonne (1942-2011), Irene (1944-2003), Ada (1946-2017), all born in Nova Scotia; and a fourth daughter, Roberta (b. 1952) born in Sudbury, Ontario. Charles found work at the INCO nickel mine in Sudbury and Levack, Ontario, until illness forced his early retirement. The family moved back to Margaretsville, Nova Scotia. He died at Middleton, Nova Scotia, aged 65.
