I have found out a little more overnight. Apparently they know his name was Stewart Nutter as he turned up at their house looking for his birth mother and thats how the brother met him. said brother is now deceased so obtaining further information is out of the question. They do know he came from Burnley though so I think you may be right ArgyllGran. I have explained to her that getting in touch would have to be done very sensitively as living relatives could be hurt if the whole story is not known. I thank you all for your input.

That was the one I noticed on FMP, but wasn’t sure about putting on here………however he could have been born outside the UK. If the ‘friend’ was thinking of making contact, she would have to be extremely tactful, as such matters are incredibly sensitive

A man named Stewart W Nutter ( c1958) is on the current ER for Burnley.

There is no corresponding birth of a child with that name, so he may the man you're looking for.

So that would be his adoptive name…………………

Apparently she was told by another brother that he was called Stewart Nutter but I don't know where he got it from although she believes that he had met him. I don't think she is in touch with that brother at present.

There must be some reason for using the name Nutter……what is it, please?

That means January, February, March..... the months covered in the GRO register for a birth recorded in the March quarter.
It could include a birth late in the previous year, as there is a 42 day time bracket to register a birth.

A birth in January would be said to be in the March quarter( of the year)

June quarter would cover births registered in April, May, June
September quarter covers registrations in July, August, September
December quarter covers registrations in October, November, December.

ErikaH. Thanks for your responses. I will pass on your advice to my friend but I don't actually know what the JFM is. Could you enlighten me please. Thankyou

Are you sure of the child's first name?

There was a male born in that time frame in Liverpool area with surname Rigby and mother's maiden name Davies, but a different first name.

Although Mr Rigby may not have been the child's father, the child would probably have been registered as Rigby, as that was the the mother's married surname.

ErikaH Report 4 Oct 2025 19:46

There is a male Rigby/Davies birth in Liverpool in JFM 1958……..might be worth getting the cert for mother’s name.
As a married woman she could have registered the birth as being her husband’s child. The registrar wouldn’t query it

Where did she get the name Nutter? She must have a source……..

Has she added herself to the adoption contact register? It’s the obvious first step

I am trying to find some information about Stewart Nutter born to Rene Rigby/nee Davies in January 1958. The birth is believed to have taken place between 13th and 24th January in Liverpool. The child was almost immediately adopted. I have been totally unable to find any record of the birth so would be grateful for any help you can give.
