Sue, I was thinking on those very lines, they could write that they wonder how the lady is now and maybe she would come forward and talk to the newspaper. I hope she is ok.
I think the company have behaved disgracefully and should sack the idiot who wrote the letter to the driver, who is the kind of person we want more of in our society, the good samaritan, not one who passes by on the other side!

I am a Bus Driver and have had this happen to me. As mentioned earlier there is a duty of care. We are fortunate that our company supports us in all such matters. If the driver concerned does not get support from his Union Branch Secretary then he should go to the Regional Organiser.
And if that fails the media is quite a good option !

Perhaps we should all write - after all, this was dispicable behaviour from the bus company to wrte such a letter to the driver.
The local public should be made aware of the kindness and thoughtfulness of the driver, working for such a shower!! And I'm sure the lady involved is grateful not to have been left abandoned on the pavement, it might encourage her to write to the papers and the bus company.

I've put up a thread "Cornish Newspapers" and the addresses of three Cornish newspapers are now there if anyone wishes to join me in writing a letter

Have just emailed West Briton, and will post to Western Morning News and Cornish Guardian. This bus company needs to be publicly shamed and credit must be given to the driver for his excellent action. Those of you in Cornwall will have to watch to see if the letter is printed

ooh heck Anns got the bit between her teeth lol. Ann Have used your letter you did for me just waiting replys.

This is so stupid how can he be reprimanded for being a caring person, if I fell of the bus which is a big possibility I would want the driver to help me.

Maybe they should spend more on stopping fare dodging and loutish behaviour rather than condone their bus drivers helping.

Oh my goodnes. I've just come back on the thread. Thank you all so much for your support. I hope you understand that I will not mention my son-in-law's name publicly as I don't want him to get into further bother. However an anonymous letter to the Cornish Guardian would not go astray as that is the paper that covers our area of Cornwall.

Gosh, having read this I now realise why I was left lying in the road in front of a bus that I'd just fallen in front of.

I'd been waiting at a bus stop and as the bus approached I found myself falling off the kerb (not sure if I was jostled by eager passengers or if I lost my footing) right into the oncoming bus.

Luckily for me, the bus was coming to a halt as I fell so I only bumped my head on the front of it, but had twisted my ankle so badly I couldn't stand up. Was also cut and grazed and shaking uncontrollably (well, I thought I was going to be a gonner!).

I thought the driver would have come to my rescue, at least - but, no, he remained seated, just staring down at me through the window with a look of irritation on his face!

Not one single person in that bus queue came to help me either, they just pushed and shoved their way onto the bus, ignoring my cries for help.

It took a French tourist with a heavy backpack to finally come to my aid and lift me out of the road!

I've always wondered why that bus driver did nothing to help - but maybe this answers it. They are afraid to get involved for fear of disciplinary action against them!

I hope your son-in-law does pursue his case and has that note taken off his records. He certainly didn't deserve that for being a good guy.

Regards

Athena

Hi Pauline - I have done a letter to each of the newspapers that cover Cornwall - my name and address is on them - you have to put a name and address or they won't print, but I am in Cardiff so no worries! You'll have to watch the papers to see if any of them prints an article - hope so for your son's sake. I told them this bus company should be named and shamed and that the driver should receive credit and recognition for his actions. Hope that's OK with you -
