I eat chicken,pork and fish.
dont eat beef of any kind, refuse to eat, lamb or veal.

I like most veggies though, so when on holiday I often just have pasta and veggies as I dont know the the meat is sometimes.

Vegetable pie is easy.
veggies with a cheese sauce mixed through, topped with mashed tatties, sprinke with cheese and bung on oven.

I live in the countryside surrounded by fields full of cows and sheep.
They wouldn't exist if we didn't eat meat or dairy products.
There are no rest homes for retired cows and my father used to be on the management of an abbatoir/factory where they used old cows to make meat pies etc for well known suppliers.

I know that if anyone is going veggie for ethical reasons then really they ought to be completely vegan and never wear leather, wool, silk etc.

I don't want to live in an arable landscape and the land where I live isn't suitable for arable anyway. I don't want to put farmers etc out of business and I think the lack of farm animals in our landscape would be sad. Would we really only want there to be just a few pigs in zoos?

Thinking about it I believe the best option is to try to buy ethically sourced food.

Difficult to describe, Marion.
A bit peppery, I suppose, slightly spicy.
It contains Lamb, Oatmeal, water, Onion salt and spices.
I think many people are put off by the texture.

hi there
i was a veggie for ten years (went back to meat as missed sausages too much!!) i brought a really good book called "no meat for me please" great book if only one veggie in family if you try tofu and dont like it i think it tastes of rubber lol then t.s.p (textured soya protein) u might like cheaper than meat u can either get it to resemble mince or steak all u do is hydrate it plus doesnt take as long to cook as proper meat hope this helps

Real haggis is lurverly - don't know about veggie ones though!!

You can get some good books on quick 'proper' veggie meals. My daughter's a veggie and her partners a vegan (no eggs, cheese, milk or tofu) Fortunately they cook for themselves, but occasionally they cook for me - it's then I remember soya mince and me don't agree!!

Well I only eat fish that have had happy lives, and that applies to chickens too. I saw a programme about those poor battery chickens last year, and would rather do without. Sorry Laura, this is not much help to you! lol

VEGITARIAN SHEPHERDS PIE.
INGREDIENTS
5 russet potatoes, peeled and cut into thirds
4 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
ground black pepper to taste
2 cups milk
3 cups water
1/2 cup kasha (toasted buckwheat groats)
2/3 cup bulgur
2 cups chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 carrots, diced
2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup whole corn kernels, blanched
3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

DIRECTIONS
Gently boil potatoes in a large pot of water for 20 minutes, or until tender. Drain, and return to the pot. Mash potatoes with 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 cup milk until fairly smooth. Set aside.
In a saucepan, bring 1 1/2 cups water with 1/2 teaspoon salt to a boil. Stir in kasha. Reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Add 1 1/2 cups more water, and bring to a boil. Add bulgur, cover, and remove from heat. Let stand for 10 minutes.
In a large saucepan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine over medium heat. Add onions, garlic, and carrots; saute until the onions soften. Add mushrooms; cook and stir for 3 to 4 minutes. Sprinkle flour over vegetables; stir constantly for 2 minutes, or until flour starts to brown. Pour remaining 1 1/2 cups milk over the vegetables, and increase heat to high. Stir with a whisk until sauce is smooth. Reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in corn, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and black pepper to taste.
Mix together vegetable mixture and kasha mixture in a large bowl. Spoon into a buttered 10 inch pie pan, and smooth with a spatula. Spread mashed potatoes over top, leaving an uneven surface.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree F (175 degree C) oven for 30 minutes. Garnish with the chopped parsley, and serve.
