Ellis is a lovely name....I know a few who are boys and girls

My name is Lee, People get confused with mine as Im female, but I love it. Its different.

We have an Ellis in our family and he is a boy

elijah is the name that ellis comes from and even to i showed this to the family tehy still do not believe me. well after all you tellin me its unisex i dont care what they say i love the name and well they will just have to live with it!

One of my Ancesters from Wales was called Ellis and he was male

And i love the name

I have only ever met one Ellis and that was a Dad at the school.

my daughter is called rachel (i have a problem with people spelling her name racheal and tellin me my name is wrong in the end i brought my sil the bible and told her to read the bit about rachel in it),

if I had to guess,I would say it was a boys name but it would be ok as a girls name too.
It's one of those names that is used both as a first name and a surname like Harrison,Elliot,Jaxon,
etc
I like it and as long as you like it thats all that matters.When I was 14 I heard a lady in a shop talking about her grandaughter Rochelle.I kept that name in mind untill I had my daughter,she's 29 now and there are quite a few Rochelles ,although at the time she was born it was quite unusual.
people used to say ,"you mean Michelle" -NO
or they insisted on calling her Rachel, grrrr
I think sometimes the old name of Elias evolved into Ellis too as it was passed down through the generations

Does it depend how you say it? If you sound it out phonetically, then I have a boy in my class called Ellis.
Ellis(e) Sounded out Eleese, I would say is a girls name. Have quite a few of them in School.

i have never met another lad with the same spelling as my son but ive heard of an actor(leigh mccloskey) .
all of the lads with the same name round here spell it lee.
my brother liked our spelling so he called his son ashleigh.

my cousin is called leigh and he is a boy so i thought it was spelt that way for both!

im so glad ive finally got some bproof that can be used as a boys name! i heard a boy being called it at school when i was 14 and that was it had decided mt first son would have that name and so he did no matter what anyone said!

one of my sons is called leigh.
he was often mocked at school because of the way it is spelt as it is usaully spelt that was for a girl lol

i also have a son called jamie,again it is unisex.

Ellis is a boy's name!! A lovely name - would never call a boy Hilary [as in Hilary Benn]

I think Ellis is for both actually know one of each ,
I also like Charley, lots of girls called Charlotte use that now, a friend of mine does, My Grandaughter is called Neve, but there are few different ways of spelling that, Other grandaughter is Maisie which is also lovely name.
