Yes, I dread every Christmas but I try to throw myself into it for the family.

It isn't always easy and I do have a quiet time on my own set aside for a few tears and memories.

I'll cry with you too Jenny, mine are personal reasons too which will not be changing... the only reason I'm 'doing' Christmas is for my three older children who look forward to coming here for Christmas.

Best foot forward hun, lets try and think positive.

Christmas is not my favourite time - I go through with it all for others, the best part is the keeping in touch with old friends and new, by sending and receiving cards and messages.
Too many memories around this time, and too many people no longer in my life...

Janice, there is a lot of pressure to make the effort and go with the flow. I would love to be able to go away somewhere warm and secluded and just chill, and forget about the expectations of others, but it isn't possible at the mo. Maybe if I am lucky and have grandchildren in the future, there will be happier Christmases in store for me.
I hope everyone who is dreading it, will find a way to cope.

Kemp, I am so sorry you have this to cope with, but I am sure once your young people are over the shock they will rally round and help you through, and make this a Christmas to remember always.
Will be thinking about you.

Janice, wish I could win the lottery - would arrange an open house for anyone who wanted to escape for however long.
Just try and think past the day, maybe arrange something nice to do later in the week if you can.
Enjoy your little granddaughter's first birthday, how I wish I had little ones to make an effort for.

Julie, hard to feel joyful when there is sorrow around and sad memories, but I hope you will have a pleasant time with your visitors.
Christmas Belle, it is a bit like that for me, in that the family has dwindled and I am not close to my brothers who do their own thing anyway. My o.h. is not one for much company altho I used to get dragged to his father's house for a family Christmas which was always really boring, and all o.h. would do was get drunk so I'd have to drive home. Now I insist on eating loads, slobbing out front of the tv and stuffing my face with choc, and passing the day as simply as poss. I may have my son come round for lunch and an hour so we can open our pressies together, but he isn't keen on spending time with o.h. so won't stay long. O.h's son has gone to live in America, and the other one is 60 miles away and has invited his mother and her partner for the festivities so a quiet time for me, so long as it is peaceful I don't care, the day will soon pass.
