Well those that play with fire ......

Disgrace really though isnt it ...although im not convinced the children didnt know - havent they both recently left there jobs to move abroad.....?

I very much doubt his parents knew though and what a thing to put them through its bad enough to think your own child has gone first, but then to find thats not true....and on top of that Fraud - Oh no one deserves that.

I hope if a Jury find them guilty that a serious sentance is imposed.

Our policys are not cheap and I know its money in a way down the drain as I would like us both to enjoy having paid off the mortgage when that finally happens - no one wants to think thier partner wont be there at the end of a mortgage.

However its people like this that makethese prices so high for the likes of you and I.

PS I am very cross about this lol.

No doubt the tabloids will give them enough money to avoid them going to jail for long.

Shame their sons won't forgive them - not!!

Darwin has just been charged with deception and lying to get a passport - and the police are still waiting to speak to his wife!!

you are probably right Maggie but isn't there a law that prevents a person from benefitting from crime? See he's been charged with taking £25,000 by deception just for starters - lot more to come I would imagine. See she's in Florida - wonder why she decided to hopover there?

Anne Darwin, the wife of back-from-the-dead canoeist John Darwin, has arrived back in Britain and been arrested, according to a report.

Mrs Darwin is expected to be questioned by detectives later, the Daily Mirror report added. It did not say which airport she had flown into.

Cleveland Police have charged Mr Darwin with making an untrue statement to procure a passport and obtaining a money transfer by deception in relation to a life insurance policy. Mr Darwin will appear in court on Monday.

He remains in police custody and Detective Sergeant Iain Henderson, of Cleveland Police, said an application would be made at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court on Monday to remand him in custody.

Det Sgt Henderson has been urging Mrs Darwin to contact police, saying that if she did not do so, police would be making inquiries to trace her. He said Mr Darwin was "fit and well at the moment" but could not say if there would be more charges. He also said he could not disclose whether the investigation would be extended to look at members of the Darwin family.

Mr Darwin was arrested on Tuesday at his son's house in Basingstoke, Hampshire, on suspicion of fraud and was then taken to the North East for questioning.

He disappeared from his home in Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, in March 2002 and was presumed drowned after his wrecked canoe was found. But last Saturday he walked into a London police station, saying he had amnesia.

It has emerged that he had written a short message to his elderly father from his cell, the first contact between the pair since he went missing more than five-and-a-half years ago. Ronald Darwin said the note read: 'Dear Dad. Just to let you know, please don't worry.'

Mrs Darwin has given several interviews to journalists since flying out of Panama, which she made her home seven weeks ago.

John Darwin's aunt Margaret Burns, 80, said of the case: "It's beyond satire. You couldn't make it up. It never occurred to me it would get this big."

Hello Ann, I have not read through the thread because I have to do dinner, but one thing came to mind when I read about it this morning....

The wife keeps saying she didn't know until he turned up dishevelled one year later......who rented the flat next door, who did the building work for the smallish door to be put in.......I just cannot believe what she says.....I think they are a rotten pair, to put their sons and the family through this......there are loads of people with lots of debt, but would not dream of doing a Reggie Perrin to get out of the problems.....

ITN - Monday, December 10 07:11 amA man who reappeared five-and-a-half years after going missing is due in court on fraud charges as his wife faces questioning by police.

John Darwin, 57, was presumed drowned after the remains of his wrecked canoe were found near his home in Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, in March 2002.

He turned up at a London police station on December 1 saying he believed he was a "missing person". Days later he was arrested at his son's house in Basingstoke, Hampshire, on suspicion of fraud.

Darwin will appear at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court charged with making an untrue statement to procure a passport and obtaining a money transfer by deception in relation to a life insurance policy.

Last week, a photograph emerged of Darwin and his wife Anne, 55, that appeared to have been taken in Panama last year.

She sold the family home and moved to the Central American country seven weeks ago but was arrested on Sunday morning after flying into Manchester Airport from Atlanta.

Mrs Darwin has told newspapers she allegedly hid her husband at the family home during the missing years saying he had avoided discovery by using a small passage to an apartment in an adjoining house owned by the couple.

On Thursday the couple's sons, Anthony and Mark, released a joint statement saying they were "very much in an angry and confused state of mind" after their mother told reporters she had known their father was still alive before he handed himself in to police.

In the statement, their sons said they wanted no more contact with their parents. Police have not said whether the investigation will look at other members of the Darwin family.
