Hi

I have a husband and 4 girls and i spend around £125.00 per week at Tesco plus school dinners for 3, and i probably dont shop around for the cheapest.

I would definately say £550 would be top for food for a family of 4

Brian there's no fixed amount, everyone is different. Depending if you cook from scratch or buy ready-made, have the heating on, makes phone calls, bath or shower. There are lots of economies you can make, but when kids come home from school demanding £20 for an outing theres always a bill you don't expect. A night out costs a lot and at this time of year every penny goes too easily.

Get the till receipts off her and see what it is being spent on, it will list each item of shopping exactly.

All till receipts are itemised now - do you have copies for financial statements that you will both probably need to provide?

Sounds like feeding of the 5000 if she spends so much at Tesco. Make sure you get your cut of the Club Card points.

Suppose i should say, am going through divorce but still at home for a while, oh has been getting through £950 - £1150 a month at tesco's ,it's been crippling me, solicitor has told me to give a budget, what do you think?

Lancashire Witch

Lancashire Witch Report 28 Nov 2007 21:25

Depends on so many things such as age of, sex of, travel costs, school lunch costs, growing kids replacement clothing/shoes. I don't think you can generalise.

I suppose it depends what you mean by housekeeping Brian. Do you mean food money, if so about £80-£100 a week. If you mean money to include mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities etc, then its anyones guess.

Should it cost in housekeeping to keep a family of 4 per week/month.
