Thats true to, Sally and my three year old grandson have grown so close, mind you I think its that he gives her sweets and things when were not looking :):):)

When we think of all the animals and birds that must be affected by the fireworks and sudden noises, the range must extend out everywhere. The poor things must feel so frightened. I really wish they would ban them myself.

I feel for everyone that has a nervous dog. My German Sheherd used to scared stiff it was awful watching her I used to end up going to bed about 8 for a week or more about this time of the year as it was the only place she would settle.
Now we have a little staffy cross who couldn't care less about the bangs.
I agree Staffs are a lovely breed my little dog may only be a cross but she was left behind in the rescue centre no one wanted her because they could see the staffy in her. She is so lovely and gentle though the funniest looking staffy I have seen ( you can see it when you look at her properly and she is brindle).
People used to cross the road when I was out with my GS she too had a lovely gentle nature. It is like someone said in the wrong hand spoils the dog.
There is soemthing that you can get at the herbal shop that is good for calming doggies nerves thinkit is called Rescue. It didn't work on my GS but did work on a friends Staffy.

i got some diazepam 5 mg im wondering wether to give my molly one tonight, we are visiting my brother and his girlfriend this evening and molly was so scared last night she was by the bath as i bathed baby jessica, and then as i gave her her bottle molly was tucked undermy arm,

poor thing is scared of lots of stuff shes 10 year old too

German Shepherds are one of the most intelligent dogs I know and it is such a shame they have such a reputation, their eyes are so affectionate.
It is a shame that your little dog was left in a rescue centre, as you say a lot of people will not give the breed a chance. Some rescue dogs turn out to be most faithful to once they know that someone really does care for them. :):)

Sorry to hear about your Jack Russell. The diazapam we were given today were given as a last resort thing really because of the state of Sally. The vet did say that had Sally not been that upset by the noise then she would have tried all the other things first.

I cant wait for these fireworks to finish, just to see the stories here of our pets is sad today.

It's just gone 3 o/c in the afternoon, and some moron has just set off a firework. Sooty, the most nervous of our 5 cats, has just run into the study and hidden in his usual place.

I make no apologies for saying I'd like to get hold of that person, attach them to a firework and .............. oooohhhhh! flippy moron.
(Don't mean it really, but had to get it off my chest)

Oh, they're doing the works now; ANOTHER one gone off.
*rethinks about tying a firework to offending neighbour*

I know what you mean, there were places I wanted to stick those fireworks last night to :):)

3 oclock in the afternoon, sounds more like loutish behaviour to me, what fun could they possibly have by letting them off in the daylight hours anyway.

Bit late for this year but you can by a desensitiving cd,it is very good, my friend who is dog behaviorist loaned me one last year.
Might be a good idea to look into if feel sorrry for the animals at his time for year.

That is certainly something to give thought to Thank You :) I was saying to Hayley my wife only this morning I wondered if there was something that we could use, say on the television that the dog could get used to.

I have a cross staffy and a staffy, the cross is VERY scared of the fireworks.
Previously I have used D.A.P, with my last staffy and it worked great but unfortunatly it doesnt touch this one. The vet has her on diazapam as well, last night after closing all the curtains she eventually found her hiding spot under youngest daughters bed, with the radio on loud.
The staffy couldnt care less about the noise but then I do say she is Stoopid dog bot of tv!!!

We have just given the first of the Diazapam to Sally now, Vet says two around three pm and then again when the fireworks start, do they take long to start to work please. I think it may be worth also turning the sound up here again this evening and being prepared for Sally to want to be in a place she chooses to try and settle. Staffs do have that certain bit of silliness about them I noticed that to with the ones we have had, We call ours Scatty Sally some of the time , Scatty in a nice way :):)

with Dakota,she had 2 about 4pm yesterday then another about 6pm, because she's a cross she is a lot lighter in body weight than the staffy and VERY active normal so they did work pretty quickly. The downside was they wore off by about midnight but as the fireworks had died down by then it wasn't to bad. We did leave her in her hidey hole over night though, which my daughter loved lol
turning the sound up does work and not closing any room doors, which gave her the chance to find where she wanted to be, not just where I placed blankets for her to get under. If she can hide under something, she's usually better

Awww, I feel for all these pets, I really do. Yes Colin, hubby and I realise now it's probably local yobs. About 10 mins ago I managed to coax Sooty out of his hidey hole, as the fireworks were going off in the distance outside the front of the house.
I put him in our bedroom, at the back of the house, with two other cats and would you believe, fireworks started going off around that area! I couldn't believe it! So now he's in the study again, creeping round with his tail right down.

Hopefully the tablets should start to work a little before the fireworks start tonight. I will leave the doors and that open also, last night we didnt do that so perhaps she felt trapped also. The poor thing went in so many directions last night and in corners that eventually became dangerous to be in, ie behind the televisions and wires, she just didnt know where to put herself.

I know what you mean, Dakota even managed to open the baby gate the first time she was so stressed out
deff try letting her have the run and try ignoring her as well, seems dakota got more stressed when we tried to calm her

How awful for your poor dog,,,Im sure if people saw first hand the stress a dog/cat has at this time they would have a different attitude,,,I know mine used to have me in tears as there was little I could do apart from the louder radio,stay calm,,,,,,and for days after it was a nightmare trying to get her out for a walk,,,,,,,,in the end I had to put her on tabs from the vets which I ddint like to do as they upset her and made her iccky for couple of days,,,,,,,,

I hope Sally is better over the next few days,,,,

They already letting them of near me as I type..what is up with these people,,,,,,,,,,!!!

Wells its just gone four O clock and Sally has fallen asleep and snoring away here, they certainly worked quickly :) Hopefully the second lot this evening will see a much calmer Sally :)

Aww Glenys, your poor cat, they just dont know which part of the houses to go into, as someone mentioned last night their hearing is so much sharper then ours to.

Hi Kay :) Thank You, I hope yours find some peace also. The fireworks just seem to go on and on these days. I dread to think what the poor wildlife animals and birds are going through at this time they are not so lucky in that they have people with them and stuck out in the open air with it all.

fireworks already started here tonight,one of my dogs is petrified,the other one just keeps barking,I wish they would ban fireworks
