Member Since: July 2005 Posts: 23,508 Send Message	There was a good email going round concerning the Norwich Accent....I wish I still had it, was sooo funny, it nailed the Norwich accent perfectly. I love local accents and dialect, and it should be treasured and preserved. Sadly many old dialect are dying out. English is becoming more standardised, and even Americanised.

	Have never heard of Stottie cakes, but I've heard of barm cakes - don't know what either of them are!!!!! I call me Mum Mum.

	we say stottie cakes for flat, round bread, I think it's Barm cakes in yorkshire. We also call our mothers "Mam" and not Mum.

	Ann I got kicked off for ages ...sort of lost the plot after that... things like bread rolls ...some say rolls...we say barm cakes.. we get a loaf some get bread...

	Also some words we use round here are said to be of pitmatic origin. An example is : "Hoy a hammer hower here hinny" translates in english as: "Could you please pass me a hammer, my dear?"
